Tech / Why is Gmail such a pain to use?
« on: February 28, 2024, 10:03:10 PM »
I set up two Gmail emails for separate uses. And now I get the same message constantly that requires a myriad of actions to continue...
- First it asks to enter my password for my gmail account.
- Then it opens Safari
- it goes to - Accounts.google.com
- Have to enter my Gmail address
- Have to enter my password
- Now we go through 2 step verification
- Have to open the Gmail app on my iPhone
- Click on "Yes it’s me!"
- Next I get an Email - "Security alert on my Mac"
- Then "Mac OS wants to access your Google Acct"
- I click on "Allow"
- I get another Email - "Mac OS was granted access"
- Then the first message finally disappears!

What the heck is this all about and how to stop this?  :upset:
I hope certainly hope I can get an answer here, please!  :wallbash: :sos:

Tech / Outlook for Mac?
« on: February 06, 2024, 06:31:35 PM »
I use Apple Mail and Safari on my old iMac (OS10.14.6) and my MBP (OS10.15). I'm working on organizing a conference with an adhoc volunteer group who are all using MS Windows.
I need to be able to access registrations and emails they will be receiving via Outlook.
Will the Outlook for Mac work for me so I can receive and send emails?
One guy is setting up the Registration Page on Outlook Forms. Will I be able to see or edit that?
etc.
There is no website. Only a QR code that we will email to contacts that will take them to the Forms page.

For Facebook, I use the Arc browser. No ads and the pages look the best of any browser I've used.
Once I download the Ad blocker app, now how to make it work on my iMac or iPhone?

I downloaded an Ad Blocker app from the App store. Now what? How do I make it work for my facebook account?

I’m tired of more facebook ads than posts from friends that I want to see. There are many AdBlockers in the App Store. Do they work? Which is the best? Is there a cost where you enter your credit card and then can’t stop auto renewals? I’d appreciate good advice! Thanks.

XAirbusdriver, Same here. We were bussed between two river stops due to low water. Wasn't a big deal. Weather, food, Avalon cruise service, land tours, etc. were superb!

Tech / Safari update

I'm still have Mac OS10.14.6 on my iBook with Safari 14.1.2.
If I download the latest Safari version will it adjust to an older OS?
Or do I have to be very specific which Safari version to download?

Had a superb riverboat cruise through 4 countries. We simply used an adaptor to plug in our devices. No issues at all.

Has no one dealt with this issue before? Hoping someone provide their experience when travelling overseas with their Macs.

Tech / Voltage conversion for Macs

My wife and I are going to Europe next month for a holiday. We are taking 2 iPhones, iPad, & a MBP.  What’s the safest way to charge them daily on Europe’s 240 volt system? I used a converter years ago on a trip to France and it fried my hair blower. I don’t want that for our Mac devices. Suggestions?

Tech / What is APFS?
« on: July 08, 2023, 11:59:29 AM »
My wife uses a Mac mini. OS 12.6.2 with Super Duper 3.7 to back up every night.
She's been getting a message every day that she ignored (CANCEL)...
When I finally saw this message (see screen shots), I did "Convert to APFS". Not knowing what would happen other than it would take a "long time". Well, it went all night long and I had to Force Quit Super Duper this morning!
Can someone please explain what APFS means? Is it necessary? How to do it properly?Much thanks!

Tech / Keynote question
« on: January 28, 2023, 04:50:30 PM »
I created a Keynote presentation. About 20 slides with about 2 dozen photos. When I exported the file as a PDF to be emailed it was over 70mb in size. Too large to email.
So, I need to reduce each photo's file size from 3-4 mb each down to 400 kb. But the originals are all over in my 20,000 photo library.
Is there an easy way to gather/package all the images like one can do in Adobe InDesign? I see no linking feature that would help. Suggestions? :-)

I ordered the Moustache cartridges at $99. No difference in quality from the expensive Lexmark ones.
