Try checking the box "Use fixed-width font for plain text messages". Those will then use whatever choice you have selected (currently Menlo Regular 11) instead of some font the OS doesn't have installed. :dntknw:

You also might try 'standard' sizes; 10 or 12 instead of 11. At 82, I have no need for tiny font sizes! :p :blush-anim-cl:

Xairbusdriver,  It's more than receiving email from others. Even when I send an email to myself this happens. Sometimes. Yet, when I FORWARD that email, all text works perfectly. When an email shows up as boxes, and I click on it to open it in a separate window, the text is fine. There is no consistency yet that I can find why it happens.

Thank you both. I'll try selling it locally.

If selling it is not in the cards, Apple offers a recycling program wherein they pay for shipping it back to them.

Search the webs using something like like "Sell my laptop". I sold an old iPad for cash.

You will probably find a site that has you fill out a form describing your device and it's physical condition. Be honest. After that, they may offer you a price. If you choose to accept the offer, you will only be paid after they receive the device to confirm it works (if you claimed it does) and it's condition.

They may decide that your description was not accurate. They may then offer you a reduced price. You then have to choose between accepting the new price or pay to have the device shipped back to you.

Be sure to understand the whole process.

Two possibilities:
1. Copy and Paste
   a. Copy the text of the message
   b. Paste that into a TextEdit page
   c. Hopefully that will enable you to read the message
2. Open the message in your ISP web mail site (iCloud/GoogleMail/Mindspring.com/etc.)

If you are able, ask the sender what font they used. You may then be able to install a (free) Mac version. If there is none or if it costs too much, ask if the sender can use a different, more common font.

I started using my new 2025 15" MacBook Air. For design work I use Font Agent Pro for font management. The Air also has Font Book. I think there may be some kind of font conflict in my emails. See attached. The text disappears in the Apple email window. Only shows boxes! Yet, it shows properly on the side bar, and when I open the email in a separate window, or when I Forward it. How to fix?

A late end to this issue:
Bought a MacBook Air 2025 so I could continue to use email and take over from my 2012 MacBook Pro. Love it! Very fast!.
Saved all my work files on EHD to access them when needed. Saved my current work files on a USB drive and then transferred to the Air. Was able to download all non Apple apps except for the Adobe CS6 apps. Didn't know that would happen. So, I keep my old iMac as a storage device for old designs files. Now learning how to use Affinity apps to do new work.

What to do with my old 15" MBPro? Can I update OS and sell it?
