Not a Mac thing, but a techy noise scare.  Just closed the dishwasher door, having pressed the start button, and there was the most almighty machinery noise which seemed to come from the washer. Turned round to see better half had switched on the Dyson vacuum cleaner at the perfect moment to scare the wits out of me.

Hearing aids don't always give perfect directional hearing...  :)

Tech / Re: Still using Facebook?

Never used it, though the missus does. My last employer (I retired in 2006) instructed everyone to sign up to FB, which I did but naturally used my workplace email, so it 'died' when I left, or so I thought. However, apparently it doesn't die since FB occasionally pops my name on her screen asking if she'd like me as a friend.

What!! We're married...  :D :whistling:

Checked and I haven't been pwned.

I am still happily using Graphic Converter, which is SO much more than a converter
https://www.lemkesoft.de/en/products/graphicconverter/

39.95 USD shareware, but download free and give it a thorough test.

As with Jim, I don’t get any reward, except the satisfaction of supporting a developer who has made it grow to a very fine edit app. Very good at responding to questions.

I need to de-clutter!

Hmmm.... Anyone want a copy of the Adobe Type Manager User Guide? Book contains envelope with three floppy Claris MacWrite disks. May have come  from a paper I worked for in the late 80s,  but have no idea why I've got it  :dntknw:

I really MUST clear some of this stuff out...

Well, our bit of snow came and went at the weekend... now 11C (51.8F), "light rain showers and a moderate breeze" from about 2pm. Dry and light cloud at the moment. Latitude 52N.

Shetland - Latitude 60.1N - now 7C (45F), 50mph winds and rain.

Tech / Warning to Chrome users

From another forum: If you use the Chrome web browser, engadget is warning that a security flaw in Chrome is being "actively exploited" and that if auto update is not on, you should update now.

Seems this Catalina was "born" about the same time you were, Jim...

From the website of the Catalina Society ("The Home of Plane Sailing")

Quote
G-PBYA was originally ordered for the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Canso A amphibian, basically equivalent to the US Navy PBY-5A. It was built by Canadian Vickers at Cartierville, Quebec and .... (snip) was taken on charge by the air force on 27 October 1943 and initially saw service with 9 (Bomber Reconnaissance) Squadron at Bella Bella on the British Columbia coast between Vancouver and Prince Rupert.

Jim - Do you think we ought to start a new thread or are we about done on planes?  :D

Ah, right... didn't follow that thread as I'm still contentedly using Mojave.

Dunno why, but whenever I see the name Catalina I think of a flying boat...

And guess what... I think this tale qualifies to be in Tech:

Catalina rescued from Loch Ness by lifeboat -

and finally found its way home to the Duxford air museum near Cambridge.

On the other hand it seems some bodies fail to keep enough. Along with, apparently, not creating backups...

A good plain-English feature on the birth and life of Flash and why you should remove it.
