A Small Orange
« on: December 09, 2016, 04:54:23 PM »
When I woke up this morning my website was down as well as my email account. I've had issues with this company but usually a quick email would resolve them, and I've never lost my website.
"This Account Has Been Suspended
Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible. "

I use the usual email address that I've had since Tim Dorr invited me to join them when we were at NoWonder, but today I get a reply that says they no longer use email for Help. I have to sign into my account to acquire a Code # and use it in a Chat window. The problem is, I can't access my account...hello. 7.5 hours later and still no joy, frustration is mounting, when they finally suggest that I contact (via email) their legal department. security requires that I produce a code and without it they can't even tell me what's wrong.
I'll tell you what's wrong.... but your not going to like it.
If this is the future I want something else.
Can anyone recommend a Mac Happy Web Host.

I have been using Machighway host for several years. They advertise Mac Literacy, and after the initial pain of setting it up I have had zero issues. HTH

This is the guy I used till I closed down my website a few years ago.  Not sure he is still in business, but you can check. I never had a problem.

I have most of my newer clients on namecheap.com - the hosting is very reasonable and the help with any issues via online chat has been excellent.

I still have some clients at Hostgator, but have been moving away from them for some time now since they were bought out by EIG (same people who now own ASO) and things always seem to go downhill once EIG gets their mitts on a company.

Not sure I'd go with MacHighway given the reviews here: https://ca.hostadvice.com/hosting-company/m...ighway-reviews/

InMotion and Siteground are two hosts that get consistently good reviews across the board (not just from all the paid review sites, either). I've not yet tried either, though may do so soon.

This kind of "service" probably goes back to the company being purchased by EIG. They buyout a company but keep using their name. I've and fine service from Hostgator, but they have also been bought by EIG. Last time we <talked about it here>, Paddy mentioned she's moving all her clients to NameCheap. (And she's a much faster typist than I! blush-anim-cl.gif )

Here are a couple of links with more info on Endurance International Group:Good luck with ASO! You may have to find some kind of "Proof of Payment". rolleyes.gif
I'm assuming you have a complete backup of your site(s). A little consolation, I guess. wallbash.gif

Ive been using MacHighway since you people here recommended them, and it was way way back when Chris Graves and Tyler whatshisname were the employees. Its a big company now.
I have not had any problems with them, they did lose one server long long ago, but I had my stuff backed up, thank god.
Nowadays they warn us if there will be anything happening.

The 2 reasons I went with them, was your recommendation and they had phone support, they still do.
Also Ive referred many of my photoshop classmates to them and they all are very pleased.

The only problem Ive ever had, but it was not their fault, was both my emails for my sites got totally spammed, but that was only about 3 years ago.

Thanks folks, it's a mess.  I do have all my data in  web client so there is no loss there. I use the domain address for email primarily so I can change all the important email to my other accounts, but it's a pain. I received an email from the A Small Orange Abuse dept @ 10.14 pm asking me to go into my customer page, acquire a code, of course I can't access it. They want proof of payment which I provided again and again and again. What's up with these people? I received no warning, no prior inquiry, they just suspended my account and then originally blamed Godaddy for it. I had just renewed Godaddy for 2 years so I knew it wasn't them. I offered up another credit card if they needed it, just turn the site back on, nope they couldn't do it. I'll see if the Abuse Dept is more cooperative. If not I guess it will be a legal matter.

Question, what about GoDaddy?
When I spoke to Godaddy yesterday to verify that they were not the cause of my problem, they invited me to be hosted by them.
If all the Hosts will eventually be gobbled up EIG or some corporate gobbler, perhaps Godaddy could be considered?

Ive got some things with GoDaddy too, and many many friends with accounts with them.
Perhaps one of us should communicate with them, they also have phone support, I had to call them long ago, when I needed something changed, and they were wonderful and very quick.

Im sure they know of this problem with EIG, but it wouldn't hurt for one of you smart people to call them.
(I wouldn't know the proper questions to ask.)

Burlington is under 100 miles from me, thats where EIG is located?

I'll edit my "dated" comments in the link to "Research As A Hobby" above, it was updated late in November, 2016. I would also suggest taking a rather comprehensive "Quiz" (scroll way down the page or search for "Quiz" [it's the first 'hit']) there which will force you to think about your actual needs and capabilities, perhaps in a slightly more logical manner.

I seriously doubt there's anyone interested in resolving problems in their Burlington headquarters and it's too late to look at the changing foliage! tongue.gif It's probably fully of clerks and accountants and a few other people plotting what company to acquire next. EIG is not a 'web hosting' company in the way they want us to believe. In my opinion, they are just a company seeking to monopolize an industry through acquisitions and cutting costs (jobs) in those purchases.

I think it is both interesting and frustrating to see what the Better Business Bureau of Boston has on it's web page: An A+ rating and a chart showing 364 Reviews with 2% favorable, 4% neutral and 95% negative (rounding errors probably cause the total to be a little off). I find it amazing that they can keep an A+ rating. That system is obviously heavily weighted toward profitability, not customer satisfaction. The actual rating system must not be used very often. rolleyes.gif

Some of companies like that, acquire a lot of competitors, then shut down the entire thing, and scram back to whatever country they came from.
I dont know of any to name, but this one sounds like one.

Would the Attorney General or somebody official look into this?  I am ignorant about such things, but something could be done?

Unless you enjoy wading through upsell window after upsell window just to renew your hosting, and want to pay extra for email, I wouldn't ever suggest GoDaddy. I have one client there - only because they (idiotically) signed up for TEN *&^% years of hosting! GoDaddy originally supported SOPA and it wasn't until people started leaving in droves because of that, that they changed gears.

I've had good experiences with NameCheap and as I note, InMotion and Siteground are also highly regarded. You may pay a few dollars more a month with the latter two, but it's likely worth it.

A few more to consider (all recommended in the forums at WebHostingTalk, which is one of the only places I go for *real* web hosting discussions/reviews):

HostwithLove
MightWeb
MDD Hosting
CrocWeb
StableHost

Avoid ANYONE owned by EIG - as per Jim's links and http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/bl...onal-group-eig/

As for scamming - no, EIG are a huge multi-national company who gobble up good web hosts and turn them into bad web hosts through what I can only assume are cost-cutting measures and hiring lousy tech support people (likely at lower salaries...). An example - ASO used to have a good forum where you could go and discuss issues, find out about things that were going wrong etc. EIG eliminated it - just like they did with the Hostgator forums a number of years prior.

Thank you all for this warning, I will also warn my photoshop classmates, and stick with MacHighway.  It used to be ItsAMac or something like that.

I've used TVCnet for quite some time now.  https://tvcnet.com/hostingplans.php
After my original website had been hacked, I contacted Jim Walker at TVC. He immediately fixed the issues and got me back online. Has always replied very promptly to any communications.
When I had a new site built, I went to Jim instantly for hosting.
