Cutting the cord

AT&T to lose 1.1 million TV subscribers as DirecTV continues nosedive:

Apple Unveils Apple Arcade and Apple TV+ Prices and Dates:

I'm one of those 1.1 million directv customers who will be leaving the DirecTV service at the end of baseball season. I stream with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and have a couple of subscriptions to channels with Amazon (BBC, etc). I'm considering a Disney subscription as well, mainly because I like to keep up with the "Grands". ;)  But Apple, at this point, doesn't have anything that interests me. Maybe down the road.

Anyone else cut the cable/satellite cord?

I cut the cord several years ago, keeping my internet connection but dropping cable (Time Warner, now Spectrum). I don't know how to stream video and I don't particularly care, since I found out that I turned off virtually everything as soon as I accessed any particular channel. The only thing that I used to watch was The Weather Channel and that has become so bad and inaccurate that I made the National Weather Service (with my local forecast) into my home page.

Love this quote. I spend most evenings listening to music and reading, or I paint (I'm learning), or I putter with my plants.

The only thing I've watched on my TV are the SF Giants games, so once the season is completed (for us the season is already over   :tears: ), I'm done.

I'm glad to hear others have "cut the cord" and managed to survive.

How do you connect to the interwebs? :dntknw: Around here it is only with cable, AT&T (slow landline/non-fiber) or satellite. I tried using a neighbor's WiFi for several weeks, but he started using a password... :blush-anim-cl: :laughhard:

I have high-speed DSL through the local phone company. Requires a landline, but that's cheap. There are other options, but this is what I have and I'm quite happy with it. Also, no limits. ;)

Be very, very careful....
TEXT TO NEIGHBOR
"Hi, Fred, this is Alan next door.  I have a confession to make.  I have been riddled with guilt these past few months and have been trying to get up the courage to tell you face-to-face, but I am at least telling you in text as I cannot live with myself a moment longer without you knowing.  The truth is I have been sharing your wife, day and night when you’re not around.  In fact, probably more than you.  I haven’t been getting it at home recently, but I know that’s no excuse.  The temptation was just too great.  I can no longer live with the guilt and hope that you will accept my sincerest apology and forgive me. It won’t happen again.  Please suggest a fee for usage and I’ll pay you.
Regards,
Alan

NEIGHBOR’S RESPONSE

Fred, feeling so angered and betrayed then grabbed his gun, ran next door and when Alan opened the door, he shot and killed him.  He returned home, poured himself a stiff drink, and sat down on the sofa.  Fred took out his phone where he saw a second message from Alan.

SECOND MESSAGE
"Hi, Fred, this is Alan next door, again.  Sorry about the typo in my last text.  I expect that you figured it out and noticed that darned Auto-Correct changed “wi-fi” to “wife.”

Never got sucked into the cable TV mess. Have high-speed DSL at this house and an over-the-air antenna. Old house had cable internet and roof antenna.

Recently one of the NYC stations changed its frequency and requested everyone rescan their TVs. I was amazed to now get between 62-65 stations on my TVs. Of course some of the channels are in Spanish, Korean or even German. But plenty to watch if I had the urge. And all FREE!   :p
