6400/G3/400, 136M Ram, OS 9.1, Appleworks 6.2.

This morning, files opened as normal.  Worked about three hours on file, seven pages, most two columsn, varied width, jpegs, with text wrap, throughout.  Saved normally throughout the working period.  

Did some changes, didn't like, closed without saving, File>Open>  "This file appears to be damaged".  Vocal enhancement didn't help.    

Had an older version of same file.  Went through and made all the changes, AGAIN, saving as I go.  Finish, Spell Check, Save, Print, Close.  Deiced to make a few changes for the next printing, you know, get a head start on the work, and "This file appears to be damaged".

HELP!!  This is the office brochure, and I really really don't want to recreate today's changes.  Of course it's not backed up, because I had just finished.

Could a bad PRAM battery cause this?  I haven't changed that in 4 years.

IAAWGS: I have the same hub attached to my G3. Has never  even sneezed.

PS: Get new carpet      . . . it requires moving everything out and reorganizing that astonishing world in back of everything you work with!

What an educational experience that is

Is there a font checking utility?  Or do I do it the old fashioned way, blocks of fonts at a time?

BTW-I'm not touching a computer for two days, to appease the demons of keyboards!  When both computers start acting up......

I use ATM, Quark likes Font Reserve, short of that here’s a resource with some freebies on it.

I've had a similar problem, but in my case it was not the Fonts, it turned out to be a corrupt graphic file, and it would only catch the Flu when I changed the position of the file and set the  text wrap selection, I had to replace my hard drive, it seems that when I saved the file it would write onto a bad sector, or the file was to large I don't know but when I installed a larger HD I have not had that problem return! And I still use that same JPG that would die, so it was not the initial JPG file. Go figure!
I also set my preferences to NOT auto save, as this has caused me problems in the pre 10 days!

Don't know which graphic, one of the jpegs for sure, I think it was a small one, maybe all the manipulations did something,    but it was not fonts. Took the easy way out, and moved all but the system fonts out, restarted, no open    

Six weeks to recreate, not bad huh?     A small fib, actual time was only 20 hours.

This is great!! I've never had a font problem that I know of, but I've had a number of problems with graphic files! I only wish TS was around back then!!!
