The latter is not quite as powerful as the former.

Tech / 1st question - Mail icons

I need to apologize for my being unable to follow this thread.
I am simply getting too old to communicate reliably with others.
I will try to do better, or refrain from shooting off my mouth.

See my post of 9/21.  As I said there …

To change the icon size:

GO To "VIEW" from the menu bar. At the bottom — de-select "Small Mailbox Icons"

The View menu is very handy — spend some time familiarizing yourself with it.

Tech / Nasty iPhoto problem
« on: September 25, 2010, 01:36:46 PM »
Ordinarily ONE iPhoto Library suffices, because it can contain any number of "albums"

However, what you need/want is iPhoto Buddy v 1.3.4;

an application specifically designed for managing multiple iPhoto libraries.

Go to:  http://www.iphotobuddy.com/

It is a perfectly composed Web Page. An exemplar for web page design —  I M H O that is.

Go on. Take a look. I'll wait.

"iPhoto Buddy allows you to use more than one Photo Library with Apple's iPhoto, and makes it easy to switch between them.  But first, each Library must be added to Buddy's Library List.

Your existing iPhoto Library (the Default Library) has been added to the Library List for you.  You can add additional existing Libraries, if you have them.  You can also create new (empty) Libraries and add them to the Library List.

To add an existing Library, simply drag it from the Finder and drop it on the Library List.

To create a new Library, choose File --> Create A New Library....  From the standard 'Save As' Dialog that appears, enter a name and location for your new Library, then click the 'Create' button.  iPhoto will launch and open your new, empty Library into which you can begin importing your photos.

To view and edit one of your Libraries with iPhoto, simply select it from the Library List and click the Launch Button.  iPhoto will launch and open the selected Library.

See the iPhoto Buddy Manual for more details."

QUOTE(Frances144 @ Sep 21 2010, 12:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Sorry, I am on Snow Leopard.

I have arranged my Toolbar - I just want the Toolbar to be bigger - bigger icons, bigger writing.  They are very small.  I did make the drawers bigger though!

I am nonplussed, having never seen a size change in the Mail menu bar; but ...

Have you tried adjusting your screen resolution ?

You neglected to say what version of MAIL you are using, but the following is correct — at least for v. 4.3
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
To get rid of RSS - go to Preferences > RSS > select a different RSS reader such as GRUML or NetNewsWire or Vienna.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
To change the icon size:

In  Mail   GO To  "VIEW" from the menu bar.  At the bottom — de-select "Small Mailbox Icons"

The View menu is very handy — spend some time familiarizing yourself with it.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I suggest reading the following — it is from the built-in "on-line" HELP menu at the top of your display when MAIL is the frontmost application.

I like the nifty icon for making your mailboxes visible or hidden from view. You can have an icon in the menu bar that toggles this.

The toolbar at the top of Mail windows provides quick access to frequently used commands. You can choose which items appear in these toolbars and how the items are arranged.

To customize the toolbar:

Open the Mail window whose toolbar you want to change.

Make the window (Message Viewer, New Message, or Note) whose toolbar you want to change the current window.

Choose View > Customize Toolbar, or Control-click the toolbar and choose Customize Toolbar from the shortcut menu.

Drag items from the toolbar palette into the toolbar, drag items out of the toolbar, or move items around in the toolbar.

When you drag an item to the toolbar, a green icon indicates you’re adding it.

When you drag an item from the toolbar, visual and sound effects indicate it has been removed. You can add the item again if you want.

To change how the icons are displayed in the toolbar, choose an option from the Show pop-up menu.

While working in a Mail window, you can quickly:

Rearrange a toolbar by holding down the Command key and dragging a toolbar item to a new location, or dragging it out of the toolbar to remove it.

Cycle through the different icon and label sizes by holding down the Command key and clicking the toolbar button in the upper-right corner of the window until you see the setting you like.

When you resize a window, toolbar icons can become hidden as the toolbar narrows. To set which items disappear last, Control-click the icons in the toolbar and choose Keep Item Visible.

All you need  is  "Blackout"

Blackout is a unique screen-dimming and focus aide which helps you concentrate on your work - while saving your eyesight. Blackout provides instant screen dimming without affecting your hardware or gamma settings.
Blackout also provides unique 'Spotlight' and 'Soft Edges' modes: use the Spotlight mode to have a circle of light follow your cursor, or stay fixed on an important area of your screen. 2009 / Time Capsule ... early RIP?
« on: November 03, 2009, 07:30:15 AM »
My Time Capsule has been running strong for a long time, but ...

Does the drive "spin up" each time it performs its backup ?

If so, that presages a short lifespan.

If the drive runs endlessly it doesn't.

The default for "Time Machine" is for it to run hourly.

I  use 3rd party applications to radically alter that.

Having a blank password for an administrator's access privileges has NOTHING to do ordinary administrator's privilegs for using any of the application's listed.
