I got one of those. At first thought it was a hack, then wondered if you were just reaching out to some of us older members from way back who had at one time exchanged emails with you. But the last sentence in the email sounded odd, asking for an immediate reply. You wouldn't have written that unless you had a problem with TS. But if that were the case you would have said so.
At any rate, I didn't answer due to suspicion and it apparently was correct. Glad you got it all straightened out.

When you get to narrating your own books and if you run across the same problem, just substitute a word that doesn't have a "pop" when spoken. It's your book so no one can complain.

Sorry to hear you got snookered by this scam. There have been several articles lately about how prevalent these are.
A few years ago my father nearly got taken by the one where someone pretends to be a relative who had an emergency and needed money. Fortunately I intervened before any money was committed. These scum don't care who they attack or what the consequences are for their schemes.

First of all, thank you for the kind compliments. From the start TS was intended to help anyone (even Windows users) with their tech products. Of course since the founders were all Mac users, Apple systems and problems were the headliners.
As to your questions, yes, to all of them.
Occasionally I run across a clipping or note from the early days and am reminded of the travails of using SCSI, the problems with troubleshooting extensions and many other situations that just don't exist anymore. Apple products have matured to the point that most people can use them with basic tech knowledge and much of the population has grown up with computers.
When we started 21 years ago there were other forums and many allowed anyone to join often creating a commercial atmosphere or threads that were full of SPAM and often vitriol. We limited our membership to those who were sincere and agreed to exchange information that left out reference to "touchy" topics (politics, sex, religion). We've tried to keep things even handed, though we have had our mini dustups over the years. All in all, it kept the forum peaceful though it did limit our growth. Today there are so many other places to find answers that one need not join a forum like ours.
And yes, quite a few have retired or left, not just TS but this "mortal coil". Sadly, many of the founders have passed on along with many of the early members. Those of us who have survived check in perhaps less often as life has taken on other responsibilities. There are a few who thankfully are up to date with all the latest and attempt to fulfill our purpose. I, too, am thankful for the regulars who keep TS alive.

« on: December 04, 2021, 10:16:30 AM » Much of our food comes in metric measurements, probably so they can pretend that we are still getting what we used to in each container since most of the people here can't convert to oz and lbs.
The government pretty much gave up trying to make us use kilometers instead of miles. I remember the highway signs that listed both when they tried to switch back in the 70's, but they eventually disappeared.
But there are some advantages to using our distance units.

Enlarging your first image it looks like it is actually in your Dock and open. Just click on the icon and Quit the program. The icon should disappear. You may have opened the Utilities folder icon and accidentally launched Terminal.

Hi Sooz,If the terminal icon is showing up in your Dashboard screen, just click on the little negative symbol at the lower left of the opened screen. All items on the screen with have an "X" on a corner. Click on the X of the Terminal icon and it should disappear. (It will not remove the application from your computer, just it's incidence in the Dashboard.) Then click on the faded out negative sign to take away the other X's from the other items and hit the Escape key to exit the Dashboard.
If it's not the Dashboard and is in the Dock, that's different. Let us know.
