I use DropBox once-in-a-while to xfr large files [bigger than 10 MB or so, which will choke or be rejected as too large by typical email servers] to friends/correspondents.  Works well, but takes a little bit o' time [not prohibitively long, but I even get crotchety when a process takes extra mouse clicks over what I feel is efficient] to get the 'URL' and then email same to recipient.

I use it for school.  I upload large files and then invite my instructor to the folder to download and grade.  Works GREAT for this. thumbup.gif

For off-site storage of critical & personal data.

With thanks to Disk Utilities, all the data are in the form of an encrypted .dmg prior to uploading.

Mainly, like kbear, for transferring large files. But Pendragon's use looks like a good idea wink.gif

I think it would be handy but the $10 a month or more hasn't been attractive enough for me to sign up.  When I've transferred larger files up to now I've zipped them up and divided them up in to parcels. . .mostly this has been on Windows machines so the software I'm using is things like GSplit (http://www.gdgsoft.com/gsplit/) but I feel that there should be something for MAC's that does the same thing!

There's no charge for "signing up." Unless you need more than the six GB limit you can get from friends & neighbors.

As for splitting large files, I'm willing to bet there is at least one app for the Mac that can do that. I'd recommend a Google search... On the other hand, with a free service like DropBox, there's no need to do any splitting and then making the recipient re-connect them. :dknw: Not having to do that is sort of the point of using DropBox for file transfers. wink.gif
