(Electrophoresis in the Home) DIY CSI Techniques 101
« on: February 07, 2009, 01:43:22 PM »
Back when I was working for the Division of Bio-Sciences at that Jayhawk University I couldn't hardly turn around without
bumping into someone in the labs who was doing electrophoresis.  I was curious about it enough back then to want to know
what they were up to and learned that it was a way of separating proteins and things like RNA and DNA from a sample.  You
mix it with a gel (a polymer for example) and apply an electric current across it and it will separate migrating towards one pole
or the other of the voltage differential.  I didn't ever thing it was something I could do at home, but I was wrong!I first heard
about this on a Science Blog and promptly forgot about it but now I find that it's explained at this website:
