2007 / Firmware update
« on: September 30, 2007, 07:20:19 AM »
About this update
QUOTE
If you are updating a portable Mac, make sure that your AC adapter is plugged in. The Firmware Updater application will not run unless the computer is connected to AC power.
Locate the appropriate update for your Macintosh model, and download it to your computer by clicking the update's title, then clicking on the file size indicator in download details or at the bottom of the page.....
Some USB and FireWire devices may prevent firmware updates from installing correctly. If you are having trouble installing an update try disconnecting non-essential devices and use only an Apple keyboard, mouse, and display.

MacBook Pro
Intel iMac
Mac Pro
MacBook
Despite reading problems on other boards, I applied the update with NO problems.

MILWAUKEE -- Miller Park typically features Brewers players scurrying around the base paths or hustling to make a fine defensive play against their National League opponents. On Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, fans will experience an athletic competition of a new kind as the United States Bowling Congress Masters takes place at Miller Park with ESPN providing television coverage of the finals.

Milwaukee will never be the same!

2007 / What is Firefox writing???
« on: August 21, 2007, 04:04:56 AM »
The last two days, I can no longer use Firefox.  Within a minute or two, there is a great deal of hard drive noise, like something being written and written to the hard drive, then the spinning wheel.

I thought it was the hard drive itself-and well may be-but FF is the only program that consistently calls up the behavior.  Ran Disk Warrior, says I'm A OK.  Dumped FF's cache, funnily enough, I now have a folder called Cache.Trash with a subfolder Trash which is empty.

10.3.9 on the Cube, 768 ram, Firefox only program open when it happens.  I'd tell you what Activity Monitor saysif there wasn't so much room on the head of the pin....  dry.gif

2007 / How to get domain name back?
« on: August 15, 2007, 09:59:59 PM »
If ther's typing mistakes, my apologies in advance, I've tried to see if the middle finger of my left hand can do without a knuckle today, so things are rough right now.

My friend fell for one of those "if you don't renew your domain now, you'll lose it" mailings.  Her domain name is now held by Domain Registry of America  She has had no contact with them since she fell for the letter scam.

Questions
How hard will it be for her to get control of the name back?
She is ready to change web hosts.  How does she do it?  There appear to be no way for her to do anything.
From what I can read, the only way the owner of the name can transfer away from droa is to file a complaint with ICANN.  Am I misreading this?

How can people fall for these scams after all the bad press?

2007 / Has your email address changed?
« on: August 06, 2007, 03:56:12 PM »
I'm getting a LOT of bounced email messages.  Personal messages aren't going through, email notifications of replies to YOUR topics aren't going through.... you get the idea.

If you haven't checked lately, please go to "My Control", the link is at the top of the page, two lines below the banner in most skins, and double check to make sure your email address is correct.

Techsurvivors does NOT and will NOT use your email address for any purpose.  If you decline to receive emails from Administrators, we honor that.  The only time your email is used is by the software, to notify you to items you have clicked to remind you....aaahhh...that doesn't make a lot of sense, but basically, if you want to receive notification of replies to your topics, or if you want to receive updates, or personal messages, you MUST have a valid email.

2007 / ATTENTION-New Registrants
« on: August 02, 2007, 10:32:33 AM »
When you register with Techsurvivors, you MUST give a valid email address.  The board software sends an email with validation links that must be completed before you can be fully registered.  If you don't give a valid email, you don't get the email.

Please be assured that we do NOT use your email address for any purpose.  None, nada, no way.  If you check the boxes to not be contacted by Admins, we do NOT and will NOT do so.  If you check the boxes to not have personal messages sent to you, again, we do not and will not go against your wishes.

Si, mon ami de France, s'il vous plaît le contact édite votre profil avec une vraie adresse, et un alors déclic « l'E-mail de Validation de Resend » en haut de votre page, et alors je peux vous valider.

2007 / Average life of media?
« on: July 28, 2007, 09:39:38 AM »
I've a Fuji 128 xD card for a Fuji S5000.  All of a sudden, the camera will give a "Card is not initialized" message-Right after just taking a set of shots, with no error message.  And now the card can't be read by wither the Cube of the MBP.

Second time it has happened.  Card gone bad?  Camera going wonky?  I'm losing my mind???

Card went from camera to card reader, not even into the hold of the nether regions aka my purse.

I can format it in the camera, but I'm afraid to depend on it.

I must have looked at this a bit too long yesterday.

EVERYONE needs to delete your previous TS cookies.  A lot of the problems some of you have been seeing,  today I've been seeing.  I'm on the "other" computer, so I still have cookies from 2.1.7 and they are not playing well with 2.2.2.  No, I'm not even sure I know what I'm talking about.... but it is now working.  I went to my browser's preferences and dumped the cookies, and I'm in Firefox.  I'll switch over to Safari and try deleting from the board link, which seems to be working.  Also, never hurts to empty your cache.

2007 / New forum-New Look
« on: May 13, 2007, 08:47:46 AM »
We have been discussing how to better accommodate our original Mission as well as the various interests of our members and the community we have grown over the years. In order to better meet the goal of giving quick and concrete advice to those who come with problems, we decided to separate the technical threads from those that are of a general nature.

So when you come to the new board after the upgrade you will find a Tech forum and a Community forum.

The Tech forum is for seeking help or discussing matters of a technical nature such as Macs, PCs, operating systems, hardware (drives, iPods, burners, etc.), related products like cameras, printers, cell phones, etc. as well as news regarding the business and development of technology. Remember our motto: There is no such thing as a stupid question.

The Community forum is a place where the members of Techsurvivors can share their experiences and anecdotes, photos, etc. and discuss any and all non technical subjects in a more relaxed environment. Sports, holidays, trips, birthdays, and even a little silliness is acceptable.

Please note that we may move any thread to the 'Community' forum if we deem it appropriate to do so.

Please remember that our Guidelines regarding the tenor and content of posts will remain in effect.

We hope you like the new features and as always, we extend our appreciation to the greatest group of online denizens, the members of Techsurvivors!
