Seagate Barracuda drive failures
« on: January 16, 2009, 11:39:10 PM »
We were just talking about hard drive reliability in another thread but I though this was important enough to make a new topic.

Seagate admits firmware problem:

List of bad drives:

My two internal Seagates are not on the list but I still have to check the externals.

I have older smaller Seagates, they've served me well.

The company seems to been under the gun, "just when you think it can't get any worst it does" sort of thing. wink.gif

Thanks for the links Kris, I'll be checking both external drives to see if either of them are on the list. So far, so good, they are both Seagate Barracuda's from about a year and a half or so ago, silent, flawless operation, so I'm either lucky, on borrowed time, or my models are not affected!
