2003 / Digital Camera accessories
« on: May 07, 2003, 12:53:00 PM »
I’ve recently purchased an Olympus D-550 zoom and need some advice on media cards, smartmedia readers, and battery chargers.

I have read that if I buy Olympus Brand Smartmedia Cards (any size) I can use the camera in Panavision, but I don’t know why it would be exclusive to that brand.

I have a Compact Disk (ops) reader built into a firewire hard drive, is there an attachment  that would work with that reader?

Any advise would be welcomed!

Apple In-Store Software BurningPosted by timothy on Wednesday April 16, @09:38AM

jarrettwold2002 writes "This seems to have escaped notice, however it's fairly significant. Apple has partnered up with CompUSA to offer in store electronic software distribution. According to the site it takes about four minutes from purchase to burn. It's bundled inside a dvd case, with color packaging.

2003 / Cellular Phones
« on: March 22, 2003, 01:26:00 AM »
OK, even though I swore I would never live with the interruptions again, with my pockets making noises, or vibrating with a beeper. I just can’t get around it anymore.

In the process of researching I found
this which lists all the cell networks on the planet. It also distinguishes between different technologies, and that’s where it loses me.

GSM v CDMA seems to be the competing choices in the US. I haven’t found an advantage to either, or a good explanation of their differences.

Anyone have a phone message they would care to share?

2003 / Personal Firewalls
« on: March 08, 2003, 11:29:00 PM »
I’ve just recently acquired a Earthlink DSL line and was wondering about securing it.

Is there preferable software used specifically for broadband firewalls on OS 9s...

In searching I found this story, scroll to the firewall section
http://www.applelinks.com/reviews/securitybundle.shtml

A scanning program at Symantec to check security which gives the wrong IP address.
I guess Earthlink scrambles the info.
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/home.asp?...ZTVOGXFSTZHSZPW

But in light of the ISP failing, I would like to have a second line of defense.

I’ve been looking here http://www.securemac.com/  to see if I can recognize specific features that I might use but it’s all cryptic to me.

Macintosh Firewalls
ContentBarrier
DoorStop Firewall
IPNetSentry
NetBarrier
Norton Personal Firewall

Thanks

2003 / A PC virus alert
« on: March 06, 2003, 10:59:00 AM »
Subject:  A powful tool

Lib.pif attachment

Not recorded on any virus security site yet.

I received it two days ago and sent it to be analyzed.

Buddha thinks he found the W32.Klez.D@mm in the attachment, but it may be a new strain.

"With Klez most likely it didn't come from your friend .......@webtv.net. It may not have even come from ....@nycap.rr.com (return path) because Klez has a built-in SMPT server. But someone who knows him has the virus. There's not much you can do. Maybe try to get your friends to run a virus scan that's about it. That would be anyone with ........ @webtv.net address. Any headers from a Klez worm is 99.9% BS."

I was suspicious from the start because the guy who's address it came from is in the hospital and didn't have access nor the capacity to send one.

2003 / Problem PDF files
« on: February 04, 2003, 09:50:00 AM »
On my business partition this file gave me a PDF error message, so I moved to another partition Using Explorer 5 and  Acrobat™ Reader 4.0 and OS9.2.

When attempting to access this file, the first attempt allowed me to view it, but consequent attempt stalled the browser. I wanted to save the document to view in the  partition that was unable to access the file at first try, couldn’t save.

I can go to the front page  http://www.jchs.harvard.edu/  open any file in "Latest Releases" and see it, but once opened I can’t return?

http://www.jchs.harvard.edu/publications/s...3-1_schuetz.pdf

I do have Print to PDF, only it doesn’t work from chooser now, I’m forced to use the menu bar in Explorer. PDF documents seem alien to this process, I never look forward to them at all.

Back to the problem, maybe someone could try to access this file to see if the problem is with the document and not my preferences? Please?
