Tech / Re: TotalAV security tool?
« on: May 15, 2020, 12:44:47 PM »
Hey guys, I tried it for a week and found that it kept throwing me pop-ups, and warning me that the "free trial" was about to expire.  It just got in the way, and I got rid of it; just not worth the bother!

Tech / Re: e-book readers or print?

Being a “certified wrinkle” (75 yrs. old), I still prefer holding a book, but I have to admit that my iPad is loaded with ebooks that I've gotten for free, read and enjoyed, from bookbub.com!  I also have Overdrive on it, which is linked to ebooks available through my library.  And every once and awhile, when Amazon offers a 90-day freebie to their Kindle Unlimited, I'll sign up with them and binge read; you just have to remember to cancel before that expires and you wind up with a $30 charge for another 90 day subscription!

Tech / Re: 10.14.6 32 bit compatible?
« on: October 15, 2019, 06:28:45 PM »
Well, I took a chance and updated to 10..14.6, held my breath, rebooted and fired up my bought and paid for Lightroom 6.?, which is the 32 bit application that I did not want to have to do without, and am happy to report that it runs just fine!  So, although I haven't tested a lot of the other 32 bit apps, I have no doubt that they'll run fine!    :eusa_dance: :yahoo:

Hey Guys, will OS 10.14.6 still run 32 bit applications?  I know that 10.15 won't, so. . . Thanks in advance!

Just testing to see if I use Firefox to post, it gets rid of the “Yahoo Instant Messenger” thingy that blocks part of my posts!

But I see that it doesn’t; anybody have a suggestion as to how I can do it?

 :thanx: in advance!

Tech / Re: Catalina now available
« on: October 12, 2019, 11:29:10 AM »
I've been reading that there are all sorts of problems arising for people who have already updated to Catalina.  The Mac Observer mentioned that one of their techs came out the other day saying that the idea generators (my phrasing) up-ladder aren’t the least bit interested in hearing from the programmers/engineers why some of their ideas are flawed.  Of course, it's possible that it was just a disgruntled employee, but he was talking about how they seem to be eliminating the connection ports (is that the right term?) for peripherals, so that they can extract a few more $ for dongles that don't work all that well; as if we’re not already paying enough for our beloved hardware!  I guess that I've hit the end of OS updates for me, and that somewhere in the future there’s a new MB Pro waiting for me, but only after they take care of the problematic keyboards, and return to a philosophy of giving us value for our money!  :verysad:

No, I've seen that button before, Jim, but it's been absent when this happens.

I got the email also. I didn’t click the link provided, bu went to the site through StasrtPage, tried “forgot password” with both emails, and got a Leo such account exits”, so I guess I'm safe. I do keep a close watch on my credit card account, checking in a couple of times a week, ever since the 3 major “credit companies” got hacked 3 or 4 years ago, so I'm not too worried about this.

Thanks, Daryl; I guess it's good to know that I'm not “The Lone Ranger” in this, and you’re right. . . It only happens occasionally.

I'm using Mojave 10.14.5 on an MB Pro, and awhile ago, sometimes when I click on a piece of mail in my inbox, the page will display, but there's no content showing in the body. . . If I double click on the piece of mail, it will open, but in a separate window!  :wallbash:  Anybody have any ideas on how to correct this?  As usual,  :thanx: in advance!

Thanks, Jim; I'll explore those options this afternoon!  As far as the duct tape. . .The piece of post-it note that I've had covering the camera (in my effort to prevent me from getting that extortionist email [BTW, I must not be in your address book, as I never received “your” video! ]!) has, over the years, almost become invisible!

about updating my OS?  I'm running a mig-'12 MB Pro running OS 10.14.5, and have NO intention of going any further, since I have a lot of applications that wont be usable under any further updates, and I'm getting sick of being bugged, every day, to update to the newest and greatest.  Yes, sometime in the foreseeable future, I'll be looking for a new machine, but it's going to be awhile.  In the meantime, if anyone has any advice to short circuit this loop I've gotten caught in, I'd truly appreciate it, and thanks in advance!

Well. . . That's a variation of the one that I get every couple of years!  I just hope that you deleted my name from your address book, that you had from the inception of TS, 'cause that's a movie I'd just as soon avoid! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tech / Anybody have any inside info on DW?

For over a year I've been wondering if Disk Warrior is going to be able to come out with an update to handle Mac's new file system, but their web site says, basically, “Hang on; we're working on it!”.  I'm praying that nothing goes “TU”, because when I finally moved to High Sierra, I stupidly overlooked the option to stop it from “updating” the file system!  :wallbash: Anybody have any insights to what's going on with Alsoft, who, as we all know, produced the best safety software available, for many years. . .
