Community / iPhone 7 quit email

I have an iPhone 7, software version 14.4.1, which works very well for me. But 2 weeks ago, it quit receiving my primary email, which is the one I use for most everything.
Its my original one.
The email receives and sends perfectly from all my other Apple products, but at my age, I really would like to have it work on my iPhone.
Ive called AppleCare and the the rep said he never heard of this happening on just one device and not any others.
Local Apple guru said the same, and had no clue.
Could it be a password issue?

I cannot read the passwords on my Mac Mail accounts, just black dots. And they are Long Forgotten.
Is there any way to retrieve the passwords?  And or fix this problem?

I know Ive not taken part in this wonderful/amazing/helpful forum for a few years. Things been very busy, have a bunch of grandkids now, and dogs and lots of stuff going on(virus too).

Tech / Brand new iMac, troubles installing stuff

My oldest Mac is slower than ever now, at least 10 years old. Still runs fine and everything just awfully slow.
So I bought a new 27, its great, but OMG, just try to move over some of your favorite software and get it up and running.
Its 64 bit, not 32, so lots wont work anyway.

Spent the entire morning and half the afternoon just installing Photoshop and a FTP program.
Darn glad I have this one, its only 7 years old and everything works just fine(and fast) on it.

Anybody else have problems installing old favorite programs on a new one?
I even had to have Adobe do screen sharing to get my stuff installed, and even the tech support person had trouble.

But its working well now, but do I really want to install more stuff. Take a rainy day when I dont have to do anything else.

Tech / my 10 year old 27 iMac is on its last legs

I have to restart it a lot, its wicked slow, but it was still working this afternoon,,,,,,,,
But sadly, it gave me the only option to restore from my TimeMachine, and its still chugging.

So Ive picked out a new one, customized it, and will order it soon.  Direct from Apple.
We dont have a local Apple store here, closest is about 60 miles, or get it from Best Buy, but they wont customize anything.

Very very sad, as this machine has been in our kitchen for 10 years and is used every single day by all of us.
Got a lot of miles on it.

Tech / Safari cant hook up

I get this error message, that Safari cannot hook up to a webpage. So I just copy it and it works in all the other browsers.
Is there a way to keep Safari from doing that? My version is 10.1.2

My wonderful 9 year old 27 inch Mac which everybody uses in the kitchen is slowing down, and the mouse just failed. Ive got on old mouse plugged in. My husband wants me to replace it with a new 27 inch one.  But I have some apps and software which wont probably work.
Should I do it? 
I have another 9 year old 27 inch one in my office which works OK, but is also slowing down too. However I use it only for easy stuff, and it has more than 10,000 pictures on it which I use a lot.
I dont really want to buy 2 new Macs, but these are getting old and slow. The kids get frustrated with the kitchen one,,,,
Do I NEED to buy new ones?
I try to explain to our grandkids that there is a difference in Need and Want,,,,,,,,,,,

Tech / Intersting article in today's WSJ on cybersecurity

The last section in todays WSJ is really interesting, its on cybersecurity.
Things are changing fast. 
And on another note my grandson explained to me that Tesla was able to 'unlock' the full battery power for their cars during the hurricane.
I cant remember what he called it, but thats pretty cool.

So much new stuff that my old brain cant keep up with, its fun to read and talk about.

Tech / Comcast wants too much info

Got this from Comcast this morning, they want me to use their router too. I said no, I like my own Netgear one.
They are very expensive anyway. Glad I bought their stock, might offset some of their high billing rates.

What do you think of this?

Tech / how to hide desktop icons with swiping mouse

I just updated to High Sierra, and a couple of times Ive swiped the mouse somehow, and all the desktop icons disappear. And on the top of the screen there are 2 options, one says Desktop and the other one I cant remember. If I could replicate this I would be very happy!  Reason is that we have some amazing desktop travel pictures and I love to just have them rotating when not using the computer, just sitting here talking with my husband or kids about our travels.

Anybody know how to do this?  I found it by mistake and cannot do it again on purpose.

With all this tracking going on, I might start using DuckDuckGo, and saw this also which looks very interesting.

"When you still need to use Google you just add !g to your DDG query and you’ll get Google search results without any of your data finding its way back to Google.
In fact, I find DDG’s bangs (adding expressions like !g or !imdb to a DDG search query) to be incredibly useful."

Tech / MacBook pro, FLEXGATE problem

I bought a new MacBook pro in September for my grandson. And about 2 weeks ago, the display started to act very strange. We did not buy AppleCare, as we have had so little problem with any Apple products.
Took it to our local independent Mac store, they did not have a clue.

We have a 1 year warranty on it, but no real Apple store anywhere near us.

Ive just started working on this, now that we know what is wrong.
I did call Apple, but they are dodging the issue. 
My grandson needs it daily for school, so we dont want to send it to Apple repair.

What a disappointment!  This is sad, it cost a lot of $.

Tech / new way of getting phone # for spamming

This morning in our local paper there was an ad for cars, and my brother has a BMW for sale.
So I googled the phone number several times and reverse lookup, all listed as spam
Guessing that this is a way to get people to call them, and thus adding them to their spam 'live' numbers.
I dont know much about this, but my brother had been caught a couple of times with this kind of thing.

What is your take on this?

This thing appeared on the desktop of my husband's new iMac. It would not not move nor could I get rid of it.
So I did a re-start, its gone.

Tech / New MacBook?

My grandson, the youngest one, said that he wants a MacBook for school. He is science/math kid mostly, but will have to do a lot of writing also.
His physics teacher recommended a MacBook. So we are going to drive over to our little local independent Mac store after school this afternoon.
He chose the 13 inch MacBook Pro 2.3Hz.
Its around $2000 once I get a printer and other stuff added up.
Thinking this will be sufficient. He has several PC machines which he has put together and uses them for gaming sometimes and photoshop and fun stuff. Plans to use one of those big ones to store all his stuff on, and just use the little one for current stuff.

(He also wants a car, but he has a nice little motorboat.) But there is a difference between want and need. The computer is a need, the car is a want. Tho he has a good job at the local marina across the way from our house.
