Our local Museum did a lovely thing last week....

They sent every Shetland student away from home, a present from Shetland. There are about 400 students living outwith.

"The project aimed to deliver a “peerie hansel fae hame” during a time when students may be struggling at university accommodation following outbreaks (Covid) on the mainland."

peerie = small
hansel = gift
hame = home

So they did..... a Fair Isle knitted item (hat, headband, gloves, scarf), some Shetland soap, a Shetland flag pin and "puffin poo" (white chocolate balls).

My youngest who is at Bristol University doing a Masters in Chinese translation was sent a package and she was very touched, almost tears.  I think a lot of them are struggling at the moment. I know Floss has her moments.  They are changing Christmas plans every day and there is no real information.  She is coming home early now as the Government are making a "window" for students to travel during.

Anyway, I just thought I would share this heartwarming story in this world of nothing but grim news.

Community / Blog Question
« on: January 01, 2019, 10:56:44 AM »
Does anyone want me to put up a daily link to the blog?

I see from the stats that no one actually comes from here to look at it but that the thread has a good count, so I am not sure.

I won't be offended.  Forums generally seem to be dying down, these days.

Anywho, happy new year.

Tech / Memory/Storage - who do you believe?

Utility says one thing
Whatsize says another
and About this Mac (storage) another.

Who do you believe?  Which one tells the truth - she says standing at a forked path......

Firstly someone's IP address.

If I look it up, I get these numbers -
If I look that up, I get this information (note the coordinates in bold type) -

General IP Information
Decimal: 1559187987
ASN: 5089
ISP: Virgin Media
Organization: Virgin Media
Services: None detected
Type: Broadband
Assignment: Static IP
Geolocation Information
Continent: Europe
Country: United Kingdom gb flag
State/Region: Gloucestershire
City: Gloucester
Latitude: 51.8333 (51° 49′ 59.88″ N)
Longitude: -2.25 (2° 15′ 0.00″ W)

Postal Code: GL1

Ok, so if I look up someone I know's domain name, I get these co-ordinates:-

Latitude: 51.733329772949
Longitude: -2.3666698932648

My question is are they the same or is an IP address spot on for co-ordinates and does not vary 0.02 or 0.1 of a degree?

My blog is being trolled, btw.  Just trying to find out by whom.

Community / Forums or is it Fora?
« on: September 16, 2015, 05:00:21 AM »
In the good old olden days, we would all flock to our relevant fora to give our opinions about this and that.

Nowadays, the tumbleweed is visible in almost every forum I visit.

Where are they?  Is there a secret club I have not been told about?

Facebook has its' place but I am not sure whether all the forums (sp) have relocated to that place.

I liked forum life. I only had two for my Mac, and two for my riding but these places have nearly all but died.

What am I missing here?
