Tech / 1st gen iPod touch problem
« on: April 10, 2012, 11:16:32 PM »
Just about a week ago while at my father-in-laws I tried to download my mail from my .mac (or whatever it is called now) account.  It gave me an error message saying that either my username or password was incorrect.  I just figured it had something to do with my FIL's router and I would just try it again later.  SO I got home and no joy again with the same message.  I used my MacBook and had no problems.  I went to iCloud and was able to log in no problem using the same username and password that the iPod is set up for. It seems that I have no problems anywhere else except the iPod.  I have gone into settings and re-entered the information and I know that it is correct - again no joy.  I reformatted the iPod and entered the new settings from scratch and the problem persists.  I know that the iPod is considered old but I use it all the time for email updates. I just need it to work again.  Any ideas?

Tech / You need to Restart your computer
« on: March 25, 2010, 01:52:49 PM »
Hi There -

First of all - long time no see! I have been away for a while because of some life issues and just kinda fell out of touch with my normal routine.  But I am trying to get back to some sort of normal life again.  I always loved to come here to read up and see what everybody was doing and to lend a helping hand if I could.

Now on to my problem!

I have a PowerBook 1.25 with 1.5 gigs of RAM.  The video chip went out on the Logic board and I was able to get a different board and installed it last night.  It was intimidating at first but actually it was pretty simple. Everything went great and I also installed a new Hard Drive (250 gig). Once all the new goodies were installed I put in the Tiger install disc and then installed the OS and all went as expected.  I rebooted and then welcome sequence ran through and I started answering the new computer questions and then the screen flickered and turned gray with a dark gray box came up that said I needed to restart, this was restated in about 4 other languages in the same box. I restarted three times and it kept coming up to this same screen. SO I put the Tiger disk back in and it runs fine off of the that disc.  I am not sure what I did or what the problem might be. Has anybody here had this problem?

Thanks for any help.

2008 / de-authorized and iTunes
« on: August 31, 2008, 05:59:11 PM »
OK I have a new-to-me PowerBook G4 and so I have had to authorize another computer out of my limit of 5. The first was my desktop, the second was my iBook which was stolen when my car was stolen a couple years ago. The third was my son's iBook which he has let me use for the last two years.  Now I want to de-authorize the two iBooks.  Is there anyway to do that and gain back the two authorize slots?

2008 / iTunes Library on an external HD
« on: August 13, 2008, 05:07:36 PM »
I have a small external HD (80 gig) and I want to put music on it to play on iTunes.  Is it possible to have iTunes point to the external for it's library instead of the internal. I am using a small iBook that has only about 4 gig left on it's HD and therefore no room for music.

Thanks,

Bill

2008 / external HD recommendation
« on: August 10, 2008, 07:59:37 PM »
Hey everybody!

It has been a long time since I have been here.  I have had a bit of a struggle in life and my life has almost fallen apart completely.  At this time I am out of work and trying like crazy to find a new job and make money at the same time.  My main field is "Pro Audio" I am a sound engineer.  I have a good friend that is a DJ and he wants me to start doing second bookings for him, which is something that up until now I have not had much interest in. (OK I am getting to the point of my post)  Most of his music is on hard drives and I will need to get one for my iBook. (will upgrade the iBook to a faster better machine as money allows)  I have firewire on my ibook and would like a recommendation for a good stable yet fast external hard drive.  My buddy uses lacie rack mountable drives which I like but would like to compare them to others.  He also feels that staying with the faster G4 Powerbooks is better than going with a Macbook Pro.

Anybody out there have any advice for me. I will take advice on Hard drives, Powerbooks and advice on this type of business.

Thanks!

2007 / Can you hear it now?
« on: November 28, 2007, 11:37:33 AM »
I am not sure what happened.  I was traveling to Denver with my ibook the day before Thanksgiving.  My flight was delayed due to snow in Denver and since I was already there two hours early I decided to watch a DVD while I was sitting in the airport.  I put in the DVD and plugged in my headphones and had a nice relaxing wait. Everything worked fine before that.  Now I get no sound out of the speakers.  I go into prefs and select "sound" and then "output" and only "headphones" is listed. They are not even plugged in. What happened to my speakers?

I am running a 12" G4 800 MHz iBook with 10.4.10 with 640 megs.

It is not a huge deal I do run in mute mode most of the time anyway but I do like to hear stuff from time to time and not have to use my headphones.

2007 / X server or Mac Pro
« on: October 03, 2007, 04:41:59 PM »
My boss thinks I am a super Mac hero!  We use only Mac's and we are looking to build a network.  Two of the Mac's are 1.83 core duo iMacs  one is an older iMac and there is a new Macbook Pro coming in the next week or so.  We want to have a central "server" that can be seen by all and have network apps on it (with proper licensing) and be able to connect some firewire drives to it.  Would it be best to go with an X server or can this be done with a Mac Pro?  Also am I going to be able to be the admin on this thing without having to go back to school?

Thanks!

Community / Advice for a friend
« on: September 27, 2007, 02:32:29 PM »
Hello,

I work with/for a good friend of mine.  The business is operated out of there house and I have gotten to know the family really well.  Today they are having to put the family dog to sleep.  He is 13 years old and his name is Duder (short for Deuteronomy) Lisa, my friends wife, is handicapped and in a wheel chair and this dog has been a very special friend to her. He has been her companion and helper all his life.  I do not do the death thing well and I am at a total loss as to what to say.  I love these people very much and I feel that there is nothing I can say or do that does not come out sounding or looking stupid.  Does anybody have any advice for me so that I can help them in some small way?

Thanks,

Bill

2007 / MS Office X
« on: May 15, 2007, 03:00:16 PM »
Hello,

I really do not know how this happened.  Somehow my format pallet got moved off screen.  I was working on a big spreadsheet with multiple sheets and formulas going from sheet to sheet and the pallet got in my way. I may have moved it to it's current loacation but I do not remember doing so. Anyway it is off the bottom of the screen and I can't get to it to drag it back.  I tried resizing my screen so that it was larger (more desktop) but it is at the highest setting.  Does anybody know how to get it back onm screen??

Thanks!

2007 / Dynamic .pdf files
« on: April 10, 2007, 05:14:48 PM »
I have just started to work with these and so I am still learning. I have created one that has 80 fields in it and my boss decided that he wants some changes to the .xls file that I used to create the pdf with.  So that means I have to create a new form and re-create all the interactive fields.  UNLESS somebody can tell me if you can swap out original pdf and keep the fields.  This would sure save me a lot of time.

Thanks!

2006 / Mac OS X Mail template
« on: December 20, 2006, 12:18:53 AM »
Everyday I have to send my boss an e-mail that summerizes the accomplishments of the day.  There are a few different catagories like shipments that come in, reminders of things for him to take care of, etc.

Right now I just copy the one I sent the day before and change all the info that needs changed.  But I would like to know if there is a way to create a template in Mail that I can use everyday.

Any thoughts?

2006 / Qwest DSL and MSN
« on: July 10, 2006, 12:47:11 PM »
Hello,

I have just moved to a new area and the only high speed I can get is qwest DSL.  I tried going back to dial-up but that drove me nuts.

Qwest says that MSN does not work on Macs and I would have to go with another provider.  Of course they did offer the other provider but that provider was $15 more a month.  I told them all a wanted was a connection point on a modem that had an ethernet port and they could just pretend that I never told them I had a Mac.  SO they sent the modem and it works fine.  Except (of coures) I cannot use the MSN software interface. Which is not a big deal, however I need to be able to add 2 more e-mail addresses for my family and I can't figure out where to go to do it.  I am guessing that is one of the functions availabe with the MSN software.

I have heard that there are many Mac users of msn.com and was wondering if anybody here could help me with my problem.

Thanks,

Bill
