Title: Firefox update
Post by: RobW on April 13, 2006, 09:10:39 PM: I received a little message from FF about an available upgrade. I went ahead with the download and install. Nothing new and no problems that I can see. It took about 30 seconds to complete.

I googled it. It is no different, It just allowed better action with the intel cpu's

Post by: RobW on April 14, 2006, 12:37:47 PM: jb, I received a pop-up type message from FF telling me about the update and asking if I wanted to download and install. I'm not at my Mac now, but believe that's an option in one of the preferences.

gmann, in addition to the intel chip improvements, there are supposedly "several security fixes". They've taken a page from the Apple update book and said that this update "is recommended for all users." (Just once, I'd like them to say, we've got this update, but we really only think about 11 of you should use it. )

Post by: MamaMoose on April 14, 2006, 05:26:05 PM: I am waiting for the accelerated version of FireFox called Deer Park (Deer Park). This person tweaks FF to help it run more smoothly. The URL has FF 1.5.01 but I expect the 1.5.02 version will appear very soon.

Deer Park seems jumpy or something. As for really being faster than Firefox, I didn't see it.

If the Mozilla Foundation wasn't behind this little puppy, I would have been, well . . . . just moderately out-of-sorts.

I can't say I sense any significant difference in its operation(s).They haven't heard-about/fixed-up the anomaly katscan and I were discussing the other day, viz. "runaway" scroll bars/buttons.

Post by: Xairbusdriver on April 14, 2006, 08:01:55 PM: I think I have to agree with you Bruce. Having a 'lowly' G4, I was enthusiastic about getting a version of FF 'optimized' for it. Frankly, I think it actually takes longer to start up and I can't see any real speed boosts. So, what else is it 'optimized' for? I think I'll try the new FF verison and see if I notice any differences with it and Deer Park. It may be nearly impossible without having two identical Mac's side-by-side...

Post by: RobW on April 14, 2006, 08:03:12 PM: RHP, Firefox "got" me when the last update came out with the auto-download-auto-install. (And I was not happy. ) To correct this behavior, go to: Firefox-.preferences->advanced->update tab. You'll see "When updates to Firefox are found:" and you'll have an option for "ask me what I want to do."

jb, you'll also see the option at the top of that screen to automatically check for FF updates, etc.

Post by: Ken on April 14, 2006, 10:31:04 PM: rant/ Hey! I was pretty miffed when I came down to the computer this morning and had a nice little window on my screen that FF had taken upon itself to pull down some files into my hard drive and update itself.

I'll be checking those preferences a little more carefully. I lost my spell checker the last time I updated FF. Too many years on the bleeding edge to put up with a cheeky program that helps itself to my computer. /rant
