Title: Blocking image, javascript, Flash ads, and GIF animations in FF
Post by: pendragon on April 14, 2006, 04:19:08 PM
For Safari, there is a third party app., PithHelmet that blocks image, javascript, Flash ads, and GIF animations.

Is there a comparable application that does much the same in FireFox?  dntknw.gif

I don't use Firefox myself but this Mozilla browser has a lot of add-ons. You might want to take a look at Adblock Plus*, NoScript, Yes popups and Flashblock.

As a precaution, I would make a test run in another user folder first, as I've seen that one user has had a dreadful experience with NoScript. The user did not say if he/she was using a Wintel or Mac computer though or which version of Firefox was used. If all goes well then you can install them in your real user account.  smile.gif

* There is also Adblock and not having tried either of them I really can't tell you which is best...

I'm using Adblock, NoScript, Tab Mix Plus, Flashblock and User Agent Switcher. Never had a problem with any. Wouldn't consider running without NoScript nor Adblock. Flashblock works its thing on Flash ads that Adblock misses. Tab Mix gives me more control over tabs than I can handle!

I think image blocking and gif animation are setings in FF prefs. But if you turn all that stuff OFF you'll be back to plain text! not that that would be so bad! harhar.gif

If time permits, I'll muck about with those add-ons/apps next week.
