Title: No stupid questions.....
Post by: RNKIII on May 28, 2006, 09:12:42 PM
The audio system in my new PT Cruiser is listed as "MP3" compatible.... As I won't actually have possession until Tuesday / Wednesday I am trying 'from afar' to determine which / what cable will plug into the face plate and connect my iPod (5g/video) to allow the iPod to play through the audio system?
I have been to the Chrysler site (lots of words, no help) the Boston audio site (ditto) and a couple of 3rd party 'review / enthusiast' sites but still not joy...
Anyone here have any experience along these lines???
TIA,
Bob K. rnkiii

I "believe" that what my friend Gary has in his PT Cruiser is a CD player that will play MP3 CD's that can be burned by Toast amongst other programs. The point is that you can put a lot of music on one of these. I think you can probably get an adapter for an iPOD put in pretty cheaply but I don't know the exact price.

Yeah, this has an in-dash 6-CD changer.... but it also has an 'aux. audio input jack' for MP3 players..... and I'm looking for a cable / connector to plug into the iPod headphone jack and into the audio input jack.

It's nothing special. Just look at Radio Shack or whatever.
Then just look for the hole in the Player.

Will give the local Radio Shack a try tomorrow (if they're open)...
Belkin wants $14.9 for their's
Will see how it works...
Thanks again,

Depending on the fidelity of the car's audio system [and your ears], IMO a better cable [read: yes = Belkin, or something like that; and no = Radio Snack, or something equivalent] will most likely be well worth the premium in providing better-sounding music.
After a particular experience some years back, I have always used Monster or AR audio cables between my Mac and my stereo system; can't see any raisin why it would be any different w/ your iPod and car sound system.

Not stoopid at all, sounds rather like an Early Adpter at The Frontier of . . . well . . . Everthing
'Cours I'm –right now – more or less watching Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds, so I may be biased just a tad!

Bob, congrats on the new wheels.
Careful though. Crusing around Milwaukee can get you a hefty fine.
Maybe they're more tolerant up north.

I am a 'professional driver'... NEVER exceed the posted limits except in extreme circumstances
Won't get it till Tuesday... and then I have to drive to Fargo,ND to get it and return here to complete the 'dealer trade'.... Taking a new Chrysler T&C van out that they want there in exchange for 'my' PT.
Get to 'try'er out' good on I94 before I sign all the papers.

Had to go to WallyWorld for something for my wife , so I stopped by their 'electronics' department and there was the Belkin cable I needed... $14.95 + S&H from Belkin..... $4.95 at WallyWorld

Hopefully, I'll get a good start before ther heat of the day sets in.... Good chance to 'break it in'... A term you don't hear very much any more in connection with cars.

I recall being advised not to exceed 55mph in the first 500 miles of use, and to hit the brakes hard a few times. I did the later, not sure about the former...

Noticed several 'temp tagged' cars on the return fro Little Rock today. I wondered about the max speed notes in many car manuals. Actually, I think they suggest a max speed but more importanly a variable speed, to keep everything from 'learning' that speed rahter than wearing in 'normally'. Beats me how the mechanicals would 'remember' anything...
But I also thought the brake notes were to not apply them any harder than required for as long as possible, rather than hitting them hard a few times. As far as I know, over heating from sudden hard stops is a killer of brakes. Best to never actually have to stop and sit too long with them applied; cooling air and no contact with the pads helps keep the rotors from warping. Of course, there is the 'anchor attached by chain' that is still used by a few imports...

The new ones we deliver have 3-7 miles on them when we hit the freeway just a couple blocks from the dealership.... and its 70mph from there to the Cities or beyond with very few 'slow downs'.... some go 2-300 miles before any 'rest'...... haven't had a complaint.... yet!!...

I recall being advised in the first 500 miles of use, to hit the brakes hard a few times.
I distinctly remember reading that in the owner's manual of my then new '89 Dodge Grand Caravan. So, I did it.

When I picked up my new car I asked about the old break-in speed and the guy said that it no longer was advised. He said to just vary the speed and he told me go easy on the brakes at first if possible, barring an emergency.

Apparently the rough break in of the brakes isn't either...
