Does this work?

Yes the photo is there.
I am still fooling around with "flicker" have not been able
to figure out how to just get the photo and not the whole flicker page
-

seems to work
-
What I did there was upload the picture (I tried to resize it properly first) and then I looked at the page it was on in Flickr and clicked on that particular picture and when it opened on it's own page I clicked on the button above that said "All Sizes" and then I used a "right-button" click (I'm using a PC laptop right now and I can't get to my G4 because my kids busy in there) and got a menu that included "Copy Link Location" which put the "static link location" into my cut and paste. This is what I pasted into my reply. I then highlighted the url and clicked on the icon above with the tree and that puts the words "/img" around the url and then I saved the response page.
One that works from Flickr has "static" in the url name!

seems to work

SB Not really. I have uploaded 3 or 4 hummingbird pics to both "Tripod" and to "flicker" what you posted is just the logo for Tripod. the hummers dont show up. I have not figured out how to. I get a URL that takes me to the page that has the photos on it but cant seem to figure out how to just get the photo without the hosting parties whole page.

Probably another whole issue is file size. What is the max size I can post on TS if I ever get it figured out????

GN: I dont seem to be getting that "copy link location" I am looking at the site with FF and a G4 laptop. Can you take a look at both the "flicker" location posted at the beginning and the Tripod location posted rite before that one and tell me where I am going astray???

Great testing.... NASA would be proud.

daryl66, you do know you have to add the image tag, right? That is done by clicking on the little tree icon right above the reply box (not the Quick Reply box, the standard reply box).
As for the Flickr images, right-click (or control + click) on the image you want to insert in your post and choose Open Image in New Window, you should get the image URL that ends with either .jpg, .gif or .png, depending on the image file format you have on that Flickr page of yours. That is the URL you have to put in the image tags. It can't end by any other letters than .jpg, .gif or .png if you want it to show up in a post or a webpage.

Tripod doesn't allow for "hotlinking" of images -- takes up too much bandwidth. So img tags will get you that nice logo.

At your flicker site, I opened this pic in a separate window and got this for a url:
http://static.flickr.com/71/180986474_040f5c23f4.jpg?v=0
I then removed everything AFTER .jpg, added image tags and it worked. Here's the code:
CODE
[img]http://static.flickr.com/71/180986474_040f5c23f4.jpg[/img]
Your pics are grand.

I'm sorry, MacHeadCase is undoubtedly correct, Control+Click sounds exactly right. I don't commonly use anything that doesn't have at least two mouse buttons and the trackball I use on the G4 has 4.

I don't have a tripod account and I think the step of clicking on the "All Sizes" button at "FLICKR" puts you into a place where it gets stored as a static url and I don't know how to do that at Tripod.
I think it's working now!
-
now lets see if it works.
MHC. I now see how to get there I was not aware of the "little tree"
Thanks

Glad it worked out!

The image tag is just like kimmer posted:
[ img ]Your-image-URL-here[/ img ]
Spaces added between the img and brackets so you can see the code, otherwise it disappears...

Couple of tips on learning how to do things at TS ( and some other forums ):
1. If there is an "Edit" button available on a post, just click it to see the 'raw' message. You can then see exactly what was required to create the message.
2. Most forums use a "Quote" button to create a reply window with the 'quoted' message in a separate box. That will also show you exactly how the message was created. At TS the "Quote" button does something else, still not sure, I don't quote messages that way.
3. Play with the buttons in the "Reply" window. However, this may not help if you don't know what to insert in the various text boxes...
4. Since all the link and image insertion methods use the same formats, get and use a 'macro/typing' app to do all the repetitive work for you. I don't care for the way the software opens little windows asking for a url when I want to make a link or insert an image. And I also format all links in a standard ABD format. So I created a 'macro in <Typinator> that spits out the following:CODE
<[url=TheURL][color=red][b]linkText[/b][/color][/url]>
when I type a period, a "t", an "s", and an "l" ( the letter L ). This makes all my links bold, red and enclosed by two angle brackets; "<" and ">". All that with just 4 characters typed ( I'm nothing, if not lazy! ). Of course, I still have to copy/paste the URL into the "TheURL" area ( note: double-clicking a sequential group of letters will select the whole group of letters, that's why I did not use "The URL" as the URL 'placeholder'. ) And I can double-click "linkText" and enter anything I want as the text that shows up as the link in the message.
Likewise, I type a period, a "t", an "s", ( are we seeing a trend here? ) and an "i" when I want to insert an image. And Typinator spits out:CODE
[img]http://www.MacOSphere.com/~ChaffinJ/images/IMAGEname[/img]
This is even easier than a link because all I need to do is paste in the last part of the image name after double-clicking "IMAGEname". Since the place I store most of my uploaded images is the MacOSphere.com site, I don't worry about different URL domains. "Lazy" means keep it simple!
One 'trick' is to always use a domain/site that allows linking to your images. Many 'free' services don't allow that as you've discovered at Tripod.
Another 'user-friendly' action is to always edit the image size down to something like 600 pixels wide. Many people don't set their browser windows to full screen width, so they may be forced to scroll horizontally to see you image if it's still 2048 pixels wide!
Most people dislike horizontal scrolling, for some reason. One nice feature of the new TS software is that an extra wide image does not stretch the whole thread. It now only stretches the post with the wide image. Nice!

Hmmm. This whole thread seems to stretch for me...
...wonder if it's browser dependant (using Deer Park presently).

daryl66, I originally displayed the hummer photo-link, the icon replaced it. Could be time sensitive or use some bandwidth monitor to replace it.
Kris using FF I have 2 inches of horizontal screen unused @1024x768 on a 14" iBook with no bottom scroll bar.

May I? You see, or saw, the photo because it was in your cache. Once it's gone from there all you see is the "tripod hosted" image. As I said before, Tripod does not allow hot linking of images. You must send folks to your page, so that they get to load, and perhaps view, all the ads, and then they can see your pics.
If you wish to share pics, use Photobucket or one of the other photo sharing sites that allow hot linking -- and those are becoming more scarce by the week.

Amazing how much discussion a couple of little humming birds can create. I really have learned a bunch from all of the participation and it is much appreciated. TS forever

Well, well, seems the stretching is not browser dependent but it is skin dependent.
Using the beige skin it is stretched but not with others.
