Title: Tex-Edit Pro 4.9.6 saving files in Script Editor Format
Post by: rongold on July 08, 2006, 12:16:03 PM
Out of the blue (without my knowingly changing anything), Tex-Edit Pro 4.9.6 has started saving files not as File Type "Tex-Edit Normal", as selected in Save Preference and in Save Dailog, but formated as a Script Editor file. And when I double click on the icon to open the saved file, it opens with Script Editor!
The attributes in the Info Window of the file show its Type as "Text" and Creator as "TBB6", (That is created by Tex-Edit Pro) but it says open with "Script Editor". I have to change the Open With selection manually to Open With Tex-Edit Pro. If I select Change All to Tex-Edit Pro, nothing happens to the other files saved as Open With Sript Editor.
Stranglely, if I save in any format other than Tex-Edit Normal (for example RTF), the file is saved as a Tex-Edit file and opens with Tex-Edit.
I deleted the Tex-Edit preferences (both "Tex-Edit Plus Preferences" and "com.transtex.texeditplus.plist") and restarted Tex-Edit. Same problem. One curious thing about the preference files that I never noticed before: the file "Tex-Edit Plus Preferences" shows its "Kind" to be Microsoft Powerpoint Preferences. And it info window says "Open With Microsoft Powerpoint." Is this correct?

Problem solved. Using RCDefaultApp Pref Pane, I discovered that Script Editor was set as the default application for TEXT files. I changed it to Tex-Edit Pro and now saved Tex-Edit files will open with Tex-Edit rather than Script Editor.
What is still a mystery to me is how the default application for TEXT files was changed to Script Editor.

No idea how the info got switched but thanks for the post and the fix. Also seems I'm a little behind on updating my copy of the software. I assume that your "Tex-Edit Pro" is actually "Tex-Edit Plus". Or is there a "Pro" version?

My mistake - it is Tex-Edit Plus. 4.9.7 is just out.
