Post by: gunug on August 26, 2006, 06:00:20 PM
My kids got me one of these:
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet; I've got to read the instructions first!

Er...does that thing fit in a pocket??? Or does it need it's own special set of wheels?
Hey Jane, what "ultimate" bike tool did you get? My husband, who is IMPOSSIBLE to buy presents for (he either has it or he doesn't want it...if consumer indicators depended on him, we'd all be in deep doo-doo) is an avid biker, riding 25 miles round trip every day to work in good weather. So, such a tool might be a nice thing to squirrel away for Christmas!

Hi Paddy, I dont know what you 'callit', but our local bike store had it. It has many allen wrenches and little spanners on it, and screwdrivers too. I just grabbed him from brushing his teeth to see if there is a name on the belt holder. Got one for our soninlaws too,,,,,and they always take them along. From what we can see on the nylon woven letters, it says "TOPEAK". But Im sure that your local bike store would have something similar. Rather expensive, but he has made repairs to our bikes, and more often, other people stuck, and theyve been very impressed with it. I also got a Leatherman "Supertool something" for all of the men in the family. They are great too. You can really make some superficial repairs to vehicles and bikes with these thingies. We wont talk about the 100 pound toolbox that my husband carries about in our truck when we go on trips, but that thing sure has saved buckets of money over the last 30 years when we are on the road. Yeah, ask him about the time that the gas tank fell out of the old CroVic wagon when we had kids, dogs, old grandmothers aboard. Yes, fixed within about a half hour with coat hangers and stuff. Ahhhhh, the good old days, now you call AAA and wait and wait and waaaaaaiiiittttt. We really do have some really funny stories, should get him to write some down. Perhaps the kids would be embarassed if they would ever know we published them, always carry dog food, tons of water, and human food, and perhaps a few bottles of beer in one of the coolers. Jane

I don't know how big the instruction manual is because I accidently slashed it to ribbons trying to jump start the thing!

Jane, is it this one? (there are a couple of other ones that are pretty big...)
My husband would lose his pants if he didn't wear a belt! If he had the big Topeak.
I saw a kid in the grocery the other day, and with one little tug, down they would come! He was waddling like a duck, and I had to turn around and go the other way, because my husband said something naughty that made me giggle. I hope the kid didn't hear Granny laughing,,,,,,, Jane

If I were to get into the wayback machine I'd remember when it took 2 flat wrenches to fix almost everything I'd ever need to fix on a bicycle! The Alien looks pretty spooky! Ask him if he wants to trade?
