Title: OT: Mathematical Jazz by Rudresh Mahanthappa,
Post by: gunug on August 31, 2006, 10:52:08 AM
A friend of mine from college (named Pat Fahey but that doesn't matter) used to perform with a band called the Muffins and some of their music was composed according to the moves on a chess board.  I know that mathematical music has a long history but I enjoyed reading about Rudresh Mahanthappa a jazz musician from India who composes jazz with mathematics:

A representative piece called Bristling Melody:

Sounds a little like Coltrane!
