I think my “issue” (HATE! that word) may be only with my use of a newsletter template, but I’m not sure. At this stage of – what one might laughingly call – “my knowledge”, I don’t want to start from scratch, because, in other respects the template is quite easy.
Here are my (current) problems:
- I’d like to enlarge a couple of text boxes just for an additional line or two of text. And . . .
- I’d like to adjust the postion of a jpeg placeholder, other than merely rotate it, or move it vertically - that’s easy. What’s not is attempting to move it (ever so slightly) laterally.
Any ideas?

First the second question...
Actually, first a reminder...
I find it frustrating that the cursor doesn't automatically revert to a pointer simply by moving it outside a text box. But in order to work on a graphic, the cursor must first be a pointer. To make sure it is, just click outside any text box or better yet ckick in any margin.
Now, back to the regularly scheduled 'help'...
1. With the pointer cursor, select a graphic.
2. Open the Inspector and click on the 'Wrap' icon ( It's the third icon from the left end ).
3. Note how the object is set to wrap. It probably says "Moves with text" and the 'wrap' settings are unavailable.
4. Click the 'fixed on page' radio button and, for now, select almost anything in the 'wrap' choices, otherwise the text will simply close up behind the object.
5. Now click the "Metrics" icon ( it is supposed to look like a ruler [metric, no doubt]. It's the fifth icon [ from either end! ] ).
6. You can now use the "X" and "Y" figures to move the graphic just about anywhere you want.
You may need to change the manner in which the text wraps.

Some suggested work-arounds:
1. Change a multi-column text box to one with fewer columns. That will decrease the number of 'gutters' thus supplying more room for text.
2. Delete a supplied text box ( if possible! ) and create one yourself.
3. Just add a text box and move it anywhere you want. It will most likely move the underlying 'filler' text, but it may be easier than actually deleting the uncooperative, sipplied text box.
4. Get a 'real' page layout program like Microsoft Publisher. It will probably run on a new Intel Mac with either BootCamp and Windows or Parrallels!
The basic problem with text boxes is that they don't automatically increase their size when you add more text than will fit in the current size. It will simply show a little "+" near the bottom corner indicating that what you see is not all that you got! If the text box was created by the user, simply click on it and its 'handles' can be used to change it dimensions. If it is a template supplied text box, you'll need to write Steve and include some autographed paper with several numbers on it ( I hear he like multiples of 1,000 ).

InDesign.
Can't change the default text box sizes - you have to put your own in there on top - or build your own template.
