Igloo iMac G-4 with 10.4.7 suddenly has a US flag showing up between the time connected-phone icon and the sound icon on the menu bar. The drop down menu shows a check mark, a flag, and US
the second line shows an icon of some kind, and says Show Menu Palette, and below that Open International...
I have no idea how it got there, it just showed up today, and I can't find a way to get rid of it. No idea where it came from or why it is there.
any help would be appreciated.
Even sympathy for my ignorance would be welcomed.

Go to "System Preferences' / "International" / "Input Menu". At the bottom uncheck "Show input menu in menu bar".

Command click on the flag and drag it out of the menu bar. Wasn' able to change using Bill's method under Jaguar, but I see Panther fixed that

You really (all) should get: iAddMenus1.3 to turn On & Off far more menu bar items than you realize. Launching this little gem permits me to effortlessly enable/disable many menus from Airport to VPN !

Hey! Thanks - bil207 - I immediately went to international in preferences, and changed settings. That worked! Thanks.
Jepinto You gave me something I didn't know either - I have done just a drag, with the items in the dock. Thanks.
FLASH1296 Thanks for the link. I am downloading iAddMenus right now.
Thanks to all of you for the help suggestions.
I was kind of hoping for a little sympathy for my ignorance, but I will settle for the help with a problem I still don't know how I got, but now is fixed.
Ya cain't axe fer much mor then that!

It probably appeared in response to the cerimonies today, 9/11.
