Title: FTP downloads in Safari 2.0.4
Post by: pendragon on September 10, 2006, 09:49:40 AM
On a DP 800/10.4.7:

I have noticed of late that that when I attempt to DL a file via FTP, such as Epson Printer Downloads, the file downloads properly in FireFox, but in Safari, the pinwheel just spins until Safri times out.

Is this a Safari issue or merely that some sites do not play well with Safari? dntknw.gif (I have already ruled out the possibility that Operator Error may be at play. yahoo.gif )

TIA

Harv, have you tried dumping the Safari plist files?

com.apple.LaunchServices.plist is another one to try dumping.

Worth a try.

I'm still on Safari 2.0.3 and can download that file just fine. Don't see any reports in the Apple forums about this either.

Thanks Paddy.

Indeed a good idea. But alas, no joy- even after restarting (just in case).

It seems I better rethink that comment of mine re Operator Error. coolio.gif

I now suspect the "problem" is not with Safari per-se, but rather with some third party app that works with, or modifies, Safari, such as Pith Helmet, SafariSpeed, Service Scrubber, TinkerTool, etc.

Unless some other clever chap or chappette has a fine suggestion, I may have a great task in store. rant.gif

Paddy,

Your suggestion, while not "exactly the solution", did stimulate a synapse or two. Ergo my many thanks!

What I fixed: In System Preferences>Network>Show:Built In Ethernet>Proxies Pane, enable the "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)".

I got a new router last week and apparently this setting got changed during the installation process. I sure wish Bernie would return. This is all very hard on my ego. ohmy.gif

And all is again right with the world. cheer.gif
