Title: Network-Mixed OSes

Some problems in a mix of
  1. G4 Cube-10.3.9
  2. IBM C600-Win 200
  3. Compaq-Win XP
  4. Unknown-Win XP
  5. Unknown-Win XP
  6. Acer Laptop-Win XP
  7. Gateway Laptop--Win XP
I'm close to adding a MacBook Pro to the mix, so it would be nice to hear a solution.

Compaq is ethernet connected to router, all others are wireless.

The Cube sees all the others, under two different networks, one MSHOME, the other WORKGROUP.  Cube can connect to
  1. Compaq-Win XP
  2. Unknown-Win XP
  3. Unknown-Win XP
The three are MSHOME.

ALL can connect to the Cube, via My Network Places, but User Name and Password must be entered manually each time.

Cube and IBM running Win200 are in same room.  Cube can NOT connect to IBM.  IBM cannot print to Cube connected color inkjet.

Unknown(s) can print to inkjet connected to Compaq.

Like most have stated, I do the two step work around, and connect TO the Cube and get files rather than send file FROM the Cube.

My first reaction would be to change from a 2 workgroup to a one workgroup scenario. That would eliminate any SMB/Samba identity problems which is why you have to enter your ID and pasword manually

I'd try what sandy said first.....sounds more like you need to eliminate the workgroup ID issue first.

FWIW - I've got a Win2K hardwired, a B/W with Panther hardwired, a Beige with Panther hardwired and this laptop wireless.

I can see every box on the network if I want to and see the this one the other direction as well.

Just curious, but if you've got static IPs setup at all, have you tried to map the network drive from the IBM? Just a thought.

That's what I usually end up doing so I don't have to worry about the rest of that mess.......but it'd be a good idea to set the workgroup as the same name for all your winders boxen.......biggrin.gif

change everything to the same workgroup

accessing the comptuers via. ip address i have always found more successful than using the my network places or network.
