Title: RSS
Post by: sokukodo on October 22, 2006, 07:45:11 PM
I can't find a way to turn on the RSS function in Safari: I went to the "help" menu and it said that there was a "RSS Preference Pane" ... I can't find it? Any clues?
Thanks, in advance.

I would say that Safari from off version 2.0 has an RSS preference tab (I just checked it and it is on 2.0.4).
Open it's preferences and the RSS preference tab should be noticable (5th tab).
As for bookmarking RSS feeds, it works the same as bookmarking any page.
So i made a seperate Bookmarks Bar Tab for all my RSS feeds.
You can recognise a RSS Feed by the RSS logo that will appear on the right side of the Safari URL field.

I have the latest version of Safari; I'll check when I get home tonight as to what version it is (I'm at work right now on a Windows machine). I opened up the general Safari preferences, though, and didn't see an RSS tab. I'll look again later.

I've got version 2.0.4; no RSS tab anywhere to be found.  I must be blind.

iTunes is an RSS reader Jim?

If you don't have the RSS preference pane turned on in Safari you can activate it in the Safari "Debug"menu(it is the ninth item in the list).

If you don't have the Safari debug menu activated you can turn it on using the terminal using this method:

Quit Safari, in terminal c & paste the command below
exactly as it is.

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1

and to turn it off again,

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0

If you rather not use the Terminal the debug menu can be turned on using Safari Enhancer or Onyx.

Thank you so much, Bill. Onyx did the trick!

Who cares? I don't use Safari, anyway. Just trying to show where the settings are. That one should need to jump through so many hoops to get the feature activated, is amazing. Even the Debug menu item should be available by default, IMHO. I assumed that newer version of Safari had made the RSS feature more acessible since it was lauded as a new feature some time back. Apparently not. dntknw.gif

Most of the RSS 'news' I read/hear comes from Pocasts, and those work just fine in iTunes. BLOGS have not excited me enough to even read them, much less subscribe. To each his own...

Sorry for the late reaction...
Glad you get it working but it's strange that you didn't had that option in the first place?
I thought it was standard from Safari version 2?
Or is it system dependant also? (only from OsX.4 maybe?).

Oh well, you have it smile.gif

About the RSS reader in iTunes.... that's even more strange, but pretty funny.
I can imagine that iTunes uses XML technologie to keep updated though, so that might be an explanation to the appearance of iTunes in the RSS Reader popup list.
