Title: OT: A new variation on pumpkin carving!
Post by: gunug on October 26, 2006, 01:25:53 PM
< Someone cut a pumpkin in two and piled hamburger, tomatoes, cheese and such inside and stuck pumpkin seeds onto it so it looked like a big hamburger! >

There was nothing wrong with the picture referenced but some of the rest of the blog was malformed in a number of ways!

I don't see much there but I didn't look at the archives; do I need to take this down?

Never mind, I dug deeper!  It's history!

A friend sent it as an email, its still there I think if Ive not deleted it, if anyone wants it.  There is no text, just the silly pictures.

Very silly, but cute. I didn't look very carefully, oh darn I did delete it.
I could recover it from friend if needed,,,,,,there is nothing nasty on it, unless the upchuck one is offensive.  No text nor blog.

Had a prof once who showed a similar photo to us. He only left the image up for a split second. The giant hamburger had no top, and neither did the pretty young woman laying across it. He "flashed" the image several times and asked us what we saw. No one saw the "hamburger" beneath the beauty until he left the image up.

I don't mean to seem overly sensitive but I don't want to promulgate idiocy like is in some of the archive links on that site!

I referred to pumpkin boating in an earlier thread but couldn't find an image then:

Don't think there's anything controversial on this page:

It says Halifax so I assume this is Nova Scotia; the original one I saw was in Switzerland I think.  I suspect that these things are going on wherever people have got water and those god-awful big pumpkins!

I would think that if they use Gibberellic Acid to grow the big pumpkins then it's possible that you shouldn't eat them anyway!  I know that when they used it with other types of produce it was said to be bad to eat the produce.

QUOTE
Gibberellic acid is a hormone found in plants. Gibberelic acid is a simple gibberellin promoting growth and elongation of cells. Affects decomposition of plants. Helps plants grow if used in small amounts, but eventually plants grow a tolerance for it. Gibberellic acid stimulates the cells of germinating seeds to produce mRNA molecules that code for hydrolytic enzymes.

It was first discovered in Japan in 1935 as a result of the study of a condition common in rice plants called "foolish seedling" disease, which caused the plants to grow much taller than normal. The effects of gibberellins weren't widely understood until years later.

Gibberellic acid is a very potent hormone whose natural occurrence in plants controls their development. Since GA regulates growth, applications of very low concentrations can have a profound effect while too much will have the opposite effect.

Gibberellic acid is sometimes used in laboratory and greenhouse settings to trigger germination in seeds that would otherwise remain dormant. -- Wikipedia

Some neighbors painted a jack-o-lantern on their front lawn. A nice effect, as it slopes down enough from house to sidewalk to be seen without climbing a tree.

My brother bought a HUGE rubber pumpkin, several years ago, that had all the faces and stuff painted on it.  It was made of material tough enough that the kids were jumping on it and rolling over and over down the hill in front of his house. It was about up to my eye level, so probably about 5+ feet in diameter.  They deflated it at the end of Haloween and then used it for a couple of more years, until it finally got a hole in it. I thought I could find the pictures, but they are in a box somewhere, darn.  Why dont I ever get around to scanning our pictures into the computer?  Too many, and not enuf time.
