A tad confused...I was glancing through the classified section of the local paper today and couldn't help noticing that the price of firewood is HALF what it was last year at this time. One of the ads even said mentioned the "low prices due to the unseasonably warm weather" and having to get rid of over 1000 cords! Last year, of course, not only was it much colder, but the price of heating oil had everyone scurrying for alternatives.

Here in Beaverton we are expecting 18 F during the nite. Actually, I spent 18 years in Minnesota (Edina) and I think it is funny how people get upset with a minuscule amount of snow. There the lowest I remember was 20 F below zero as the high for one to two weeks in January! I love it! I wanted to turn the thermometer down to 55 F and open our bedroom window but my wife stubbornly refused!!

Drivers in Corvallis/western Oregon haven't the foggiest what to do when it gets icy or snowy. I got rear-ended once while waiting to turn left - road was icy and the driver just kept on sailing towards me, while I watched in my rearview mirror. Not a lot I could do...
So...be careful if you have to go out!

Yeah, you guys are gonna be *cold*. We'll likely stay in the mid-20's. I grew up in a 'burb of Chicago and snow doesn't bother me. I draw the line at the freezing rain that is coming.

Oh boy howdy. We cancelled tomorrow's trip to the vet. Abby's shot can wait until we aren't taking life and limb out on the roads.

Wind at a constant 50mph most days and nights. Daylight is at 08.30 and dark by 15.10. I have to leave a lantern at the end of my 1/2 mile track for my kids to find their way home.
For a better idea of our weather at the moment, I would refer Your Honour to this YouTube clip of someone's holiday. It is not dissimilar at the moment.

15 for the day's high.
Roads are ice skating rinks, light snow constantly for almost 3 days.Not much accumulation here but the mountains are getting a ton. The ski areas all opened Thanksgiving weekend. They are a happy bunch. Suppose to get all the way up to 20 tomorrow.
Might even have a "white Xmas" this year.

They used to call them Ring Necked Pheasants around here, oh are they pretty!
We used to have a lot of them on Cape Cod, but very few are left.
My parents had an albino one which came to their bird feeders year after year, and they gave him corn. This was many many years ago, and he was part of a flock of them.
Somewhere we have snapshots of them, but where?
Cant put out much corn any more as we have too many crows.
That is a great picture of your pheasant! So colorful.

When I first looked at the pheasant pic I thought the post was going to be about one that was torn apart or hit by a car. What I guess are leaves sure looked to me like feathers strewn about!
Saw two pheasants on the roof of a neighbor's garage a couple years ago. They hung around the area for a while making that screaching noise. Think they were dinner for some dogs or maybe the coyote family that was also seen nearby.
It was 69º today followed by a nasty line of storms with tornado warnings. All gone now and the temp is dropping rapidly. Boooo..
