Title: Panther upgrade
Post by: Gregg on December 09, 2006, 04:36:36 PM
I've been unable to track exactly when I bought my son the Panther upgrade, and thus how much it was. It had to be 3 or 4 years ago, because he was still in school. But, not knowing when it came out, I can't be sure. Plus, I figure if I tried to find the cost now, it would be far less than it was when I bought it. If anyone can remember that level of detail, it would help. Then again, without a receipt, my insurance company might not allow the claim.... plus, if they're smart, they might reason that he'll get an even more advanced OS with a new computer anyway. But, I'm going to list everything we can think of that seems to have been stolen.

Sure wish we had some almost broken stuff they had taken... wink.gif My brother-in-law got a new roof from his insurance after a storm, just before the roofers were supposed to come replace the old one.

Panther upgrade will cost me $129
Published October 9th, 2003 in macintosh
Steve previewed Panther (Mac OS X 10.3) in June of this year. Apple announced the shipping date yesterday. It’s coming to an Apple Store near you (not near me… there aren’t any Apple Store’s in Austin) on Oct. 24th.

They’ve also announced an Up-to-Date program for purchasers of new Apple computers… but it’s not like the Up-to-Date program I remember. If you buy a new Macintosh between yesterday and the release date of the new OS, you can get Panther for $20, but if you bought a new Mac the day before yesterday, or two weeks ago, you’re screwed into paying the full price for the upgrade.

Importantly Apple is giving the Option if you buy a new mac You get the
Panther upgrade for $19.95. Go to www.apple.com for mor details. This
works great in my case because I am getting a new g5, 23 HD Cinema
Monitor and Now I can Upgrade to Panther without have to pay that
$120.00 retail price. I think this is hot if you are in the market to
buy a new mac.

Just some clarifications.  The $20 price is for mac purchases on or
after October 8th or a G5 purchase at anytime.  Also There is an
education price of $69.00. I believe action will purchase copies for
ISI folks after it is released.  At least that is what they did with
Jaguar (MacOS X 10.2)

Well, if the choices are $19.95 or $129 I can assure you I didn't pay the latter for it! Thanks for digging that up. smile.gif
