Title: Make Spammers Pay!
Post by: Bruce_F on December 13, 2006, 12:42:31 PM
I just looked at Boxbe web site and they have a new approach to handling junk email.

Basically, as a member, you make a list of people you'd like to receive email from and they in turn get through to you for FREE. Anyone who is NOT on your list will be stopped until they pay a fee.

The fee amount is set by the boxbe user and the funds are directed to a charity. Boxbe gets a cut from the fee, approximately the same amount that ebay charges to sell something.

I have no plans to use this new service but I will present the idea to my service provider (including Apple) as a way to control spam. I think the idea of making marketeers pay to get to our inboxes is a great idea!

Sounds good, but what if you have someone you forgot to put on the list?  Or a new contact?

Might be worth it. I'll have to read more to find out:

Does it work with any e-mail address?

How much?

As Jane notes, how easy is it to change your "good" list?

etc.

There's a lot I don't know about Boxbe but on the surface it seems like a good idea.

Go to Boxbe FAQ Page to learn more.

So, until someone came up with a way to make money from it, no one was really able to track down these scumbags? Seems close to the "too good to be true" area, but I'll check it out ( with all scripts forbidden to prevent them from racking up 'points' for page hits, etc. ). Could even be another well designed address collection scheme! Paranoid.gif

No one's devious enough to think of that. Well, except you, maybe. wink.gif

Now if we can just figure out a way to charge snail mailers a fee for filling up your box with trash the job would be complete. Presently the Post Office gets paid to deliver trash, maybe we can charge the post office? wink.gif
