At the moment, anything@myserver.co.uk gets sent to me. If you put blah@myserver.co.uk or blad@myswerver.co.uk, it will all come to me via MAIL.
I want my partner to receive his own email on his own iBook, ie partner@myserver.co.uk and I don't want his emails. How do I tell my iBook to stop collecting his mail and his iBook to only collect his mail.
If this is not possible, should he open his own email account and stop getting a free ride on mine!
Thanks
Frances

My Mail account seems to just take anything@myserver.com and if he is in that, then I am receiving his mail.

There are several of us here familliar with cPanel, so we may be able to help, but it's pretty straight forward once you're there. Provided, it's cPanel that you access your server with.
Your acct. is the 'main' acct. it may also be a 'catch-all' acct. which means that anything can preceed the @yourdomain.com and it will be delivered to your acct. In other words I could address an email to zawer43dsccc56@yourdomain.com and you'd get it.
If that's the case, I would consider turning that off as you'll receive tonnes of spam.
I would also create a webmaster email and an info email acct. where you can receive speciffic requests or whatever you wish. Give these accts. size limits, but check them often.

What Karl and I are suggesting is that you set up Mail, on your machine, to not download mail from the main account. But create more aliases at the account that only you will receive by setting up an account in Mail for each of them.
The problem will be that the main account is already 'out there' and people will probably be using it. SPAMmers, for sure, but they'll eventually find any address, anyway. You should probably notify all your important contacts of your new address ( one of the aliases you set up ) and hope they all make the change. I don't know any easy way around this problem.
You may also find that your ISP has a limit on how many alias' you can have, so be careful about creating them willy-nilly(sp?).
I'm not so sure I'd suggest creating any address specifically named "webmaster" or even "info" as those are standard recipients for SPAM. Matter of fact, just about any 'dictionary' word will probably collect more SPAM than anything else you use. One important defense against SPAM is to never publish your address in plain text in any website you create. There are many ways to 'hash' the letters in html and still make them easy to display/read/use but not place the actual text in the html. Many don't even need anything like javascript which more people are turning off, anyway.
Briefly ( he said, cathing his breath ), here's what I think both Karl and I are suggesting.
Create the following alias' at your ISP:
francesnewmainaddress@yourdomain.com ( for general use )
francesinfoaddress@yourdomain.com ( for use by people who want 'info' )
franceswebmasteraddress@yourdomain.com ( for questions about your website )
francessecondaryaddress@yourdomain.com ( for whatever else you want/need )
francespartneraddress@yourdomain.com ( you already have done this, of course )
Now, in your copy of Mail ( or any other email app ), create accounts for all your newly created aliases, except the "francespartneraddress" alias. Now, do the same for your partner, except use only the "francespartneraddress". Your partner can now continue recieving only mail to that address, but you should never see any of your partners.*
*The biggest problem I see with this set up is that either of you can see what's in every mailbox if you really want to. Since every address has the exact same password, anyone with that password can get into any other mailbox. It will only be as private as the two people want to make it.
BTW, let me know if you're interested in a simple program that can obfuscate your address and even add a subject ( and more ) to any email that comes from one of your sites/pages. And it's free, I think!

Is she trying to create an email for her partner with her ISP or her web hosting company...that is the question.
Two different things...I guessed it's the web hosting company so Frances can use her own domain for email.

There are 2 options here
1= your using an ISP email address
2=your using an web domain address
example sandbox @earthlink.net would be a IPS address, Earthlink being an IPS.
Or
Your using a domain email address like sandbox @mydomain.com my website.
ISP’s allow you 5 or 10 email addresses and they have an online webpage where you can add or subtract these (accounts)? Terminology differs from company to company.
So we’ll take the ISP option first.
You would go to your ISP website and to your MAIN account, there you will find the option of adding new addresses. You don’t always get the name you want with IPS’s the name might already be taken by someone else, but if it’s not, then it will be added to your Main account as a sub-account. The user of that address will have his own webpage and webmail (IMAP) access to his account only. The account will ask for a password.
Once established on the webpage (email server) you can then go to his iBook and Mail Client program to create a new account using the new address and password .
The POP server: and SMTP: is the same as yours the only difference between your account information and his new account is the address and password.
~Example~
Discription=POP: fransfriend@earthlink.net
Email= fransfriend@earthlink.net
Name= frans friend
Incoming mail server= pop.earthlink.net
User name= fransfriend
Password= ********
Outgoing mail server= SMTP.use the same one you use in your Mail account
If your using a domain address rather than a ISP address let us know.

So, then they very kindly actually offered to give Richard his own email address for free (costs £20.00pa) as I have been with them since the internet began, which was nice so he has now got his own identity and is not surgically attached to mine! AND HIS OWN SPAM!!!!
Anywho, thanks again. He is busy now writing all his mates emails and has found when exploring his iBook, a set of dentistry symbols somewhere!!!!
Amazing. Quite amazing.

Can you imagine a family having to spend $20 for every address they needed?
I idea of it is outrageous, your getting ripped off!!
What's the name of your ISP?

My ISP is madasafish.com
Post by: Paddy on December 15, 2006, 12:18:42 PM
Is the email address you're using associated with your thordale.co.uk hosting? (Which I assume is NOT on madasafish?) If so, then somehow or other you've got it configured to dump all mail to your domain into the main inbox, which in this case is your email address. Either that, or they're not offering you the services that you should be able to get with just about any good web hosting and very reasonably, too.
If you can answer that, we can probably help you sort this out. Generally having any mail addressed to a domain default automatically to the main user's inbox isn't a great idea - you'll likely get floods of spam from those generating email address lists using various spambots/automatic email address generators. Unfortunately "webmaster@" and "info@" will also generate spam, but if you keep them in their own inboxes, at least you can deal with it separately - and you certainly can keep it out of Mail entirely by not having it forward to your main inbox. IF you have that ability - which, as I've noted, any reputable and competent web host with good server software will be able to provide.
BTW - many ISPs who provide internet connections - ie: broadband, DSL or dial-up services are NOT in the business of web hosting. They may give you a token 100MB or less of web space to put up a basic site (usually using a URL based on the email address you're using) but they do not provide anything like the sort of service a full-service web hosting service will provide. Good web hosting is not expensive these days. I'm the web master for a number of sites receiving various amounts of traffic (several hundred visitors a day down to a handful) and none of my clients spend more than $7.95/mo - and a number of them are spending just over $3/mo with no problems or issues.

QUOTE
No, no, no, they gave it to me for free!
We know that, but they only did it out of 'the goodness of their heart'. That's not the same thing as free. Not the same thing as offering 5 to 10 ( or more ) accounts/aliases with any hosting deal. You essentially are paying 20 pounds a month for two addresses, that is what sandbox and Paddy are saying is 'outrageous' and expensive.
