eMac 1.25 GHz. I know, low end, but works for me. In fact, I am considering upping the ram to 1 GB, and then moving from 10.3.9 to 10.4, and just keeping this one going as long as I can.

But I am still a bit concerned about the way the MacTel will handle Photoshop and other things. Rosetta?
My husband is pushing me, but I do want to wait till the new OS is running happily, so that I dont have to be doing updates constantly.
I guess I am a bit chicken,,,,,,,Yes, I know he wants one of these 20" ones.
Just want to know if all my programs and stuff will be OK with something that new.
There are a couple of people here who are getting the new ones, so lets keep this going, lets see how these new ones are liked. How your stuff transfers to the new ones and how well it runs.
I must go down to our Mac store just after Christmas and play,,,,,,,

I agree with all the folks here who replied to your question. The principal issue is:
No matter what you buy it will be superceded by a new machine which will run higher, faster, longer, and never hang up or break down. It will have even more bells and whistles. So, buy when you a) you feel that your principal software either runs too slow, doesn't let you use all their features or the latest upgarde won't run on your old machine; b) there is a new feature that you must have that will only run on a new system; and c) You use software such as Photoshop that requires Rosettta and therefore runs too slow or imperfectly on the Intel hardware that now all Macs have; and/or the new operating sytem either does not run on your machine or it runs poorly.
My dual 2 GHz G5 is now 3 years old (aqncient in Mac years) yet I am holding off buying a new super duper "octo" something until all my critical software is universal (FORTRAN compiler, algebraic/calculus compiler [Maple}, etc.).

I rephrased it to avoid confusion.I meant the links as info for someone who may be on the fence as to whether to buy or stick with their present Mac. I'm not ready to get new yet. I agree with Tom, basically it boils down to 'when you need it' (not 'want it').

But I am really considering the new 24" one. I will keep the older G5 with Photoshop and my regular stuff, and give the G4 Igloo(this one) to Richie, it also has everything on it. He wants to learn Photoshop too.
Maybe this spring or later on in the winter?
