Title: Powermac 5500\'s won\'t complete installation of an OS
Post by: swhitset on February 12, 2003, 07:49:00 PM
Hi

I just received an email from my Father who is a High School Physics Teacher.  He is trying to install either OS 7.6.1 or OS 8 on several old Powermac 5500's  In several cases, the installation process will hang right at the end of the installation process.  This happens with either of the above OS versions on the same machines.  According to what I have read elsewhere, these machines should be able to accept any OS up to 9.1.

I have emailed him back with the following questions:

1. how much ram is in the machines
2. do they boot from the installation CD  (I am assuming                the answer to this is yes since he has been able to at least start the installation process).
3. has he checked the Pram battery.  (My hunch is that this may at least part of the problem since these machines were built somewhere between 1997 and 1998.

Any help or suggestions are welcome

thanks Steve
