Due to the high number of spam bots and the like, registration at Techsurvivors has a couple of security features.
1. Users must input a random code when registering and changing email address, etc to prevent bot's from spamming the forms.
2. When registering or changing an email address, the user receives a validation email. You MUST click on the link contained in the email!! Therefore you must supply a valid email address. Of course there are those of you concerned that your email box will start filling up. It WON'T. We do not use your email address for any purpose, period, nada. You can elect to receive emails from the board admin, or you can elect not. But you
must give a valid email for the sign up process to work, and now also if you need change your account.
Now, by the same token, you must receive the email. Check your junk folders. Or add us to your trusted senders. Particularly those of you with web based email clients. QUOTE

Why you ask? We've been receiving one to three spammers registering per day. We don't want them bothering you or us. So far we've been able to keep them out, but they are getting more sophisticated. We may have to get more sophisticated also, but let's see how this works.
-
Thanks Jennie - they are a pain, and anything you can do to keep 'our' board clean is OK with me!
-
Amen! What Highmac said!
-
Jennie, I just changed my email address and got the validation email from administration @ techsurvivors.net
I followed the instructions in the email and got this:
[attachment=61:attachment]
I am assuming all is well...everything seems to be working OK!
I certainly appreciate all you do to keep us safe!!!
-
Hi Jennie,
Thanks for all your hard work on the TS site. Personally, I get 25-50 spam e-mails a day, thanks largely to the e-mail link on my website. My Spam program, Postini, does a great job for the most part; your attention to detail here is much appreciated by all of us I'm sure!

You might check out Scramble at GoLiveCentral.com. It's a form that scrambles your email address into its ASCII code equivalent. Very easy to use, and we don't get spam from our website any longer (just from all our pals with winmachines who forward stuff! LOL).
-
I couldn't quite HEAR what you said, Jen.
PS: With my newly reformatted drive, I had to reregister. Piece of cake. Thanks.
-
Jen for keeping us safe. I appreciate all of the work you do on this site to keep it clean and empty of spammers.

(you) must give a valid email for the sign up process to work, and now also if you need change your account.
But if I don't "need change" my account, I'm OK, right? I must be; I'm in.
-
Heck, I never have any cash, so I rarely can make, much less "need change"...
OTOH, change can be good...
OTOH, this is not the Grammar thread...
OTOH, my eyes are still a little sore from the 'shouting'...
and how many hands do I have, anyway?!
-
I only need change for the paper machine -- a total of 6 quarters each week for 3 papers.
-
If that's what this is about... I need 10 quarters every morning - accept* Saturday and Sunday.
* not the Grammar thread
-
Yes, only if you need change your account. We do understand that some of you are loath to give us a "real address". If something happens that isn't supposed to, email me, you know how, and I can probably fix it.
It's supposed to work, so let me now if it doesn't.
-
Dear Grammar Police:
Please make a ruling as whether I need add a preposition.
Please make a ruling as to whether I need to add a preposition
-
You may.
Not that I qualify

I assumed it was an oversight from editing the composition (only because I frequently see that in my own writing).
I couldn't pass this one up because the phrase had a stand-alone meaning, which Jim quickly picked up on. (oops!) I always enjoy his witty relplies. So, I guess I got what I was looking for, if not what I deserve.
I'll be good. I suppose I'll have to pass on other "opportunities" for a year or so to make up for one indulgence.
-
Perhaps it's a 'cultural' thang! The first time, I though you might have just made a misteak. Fifty lashes with an iPod earplugs for even thinking the Empress could do such a thing!
I need kneel in apology?!
You tew, Gregg!
-
As some of you may have recently seen, we are getting some really sick registerants. We are aware and trying our very best to keep it under control. But this may mean stronger measures. We will keep you aware of developments.
-
Please note that I think I've figured out that our "sick" registrants aren't so much interested in having us view Angelina's naughty bits as gumming up our computers with a Trojan. The links he/she/it posts ultimately go to what appears to be a web site that automatically downloads an .exe file that you ostensibly need to view the advertised porn. The file is in fact hiding a trojan (you never actually see any porn!) - so IF one of these slips through, whatever you do don't go anywhere near it if you're on a PC!! Let us know pronto, and we'll remove the post immediately.
-
Gee, I'm so busy stopping these goofballs on my own board, I'm missing the excitement here.

We could refer them to you if you'd like??

We could also swap. You send me yours and I'll send you mine.

Thankfully, I've missed out on the degradation.
to our vigilant adminstrators!
-
Thanks for the due diligence this morning!
-
You're welcome. Always a lovely way to start a morning along with a nice hot cup of coffee.

I have, upon occasion, had to look into a computer for material that is outside of the standards required by school district policy; it's kind of uncomfortable but it has to be done.
