Got any more snow pictures, such as those you posted a couple of years ago . . . just so the US winter can be put in perspective?
(written from Honolulu, BTW

I don't think so, Dick...just had a look at the snow conditions at a couple of NFLD ski resorts and they were reporting 30 and 45 cm of snow respectively - or a foot and 18" for the metrically challenged. One of them (Marble Mountain) typically gets 16 FEET, sooooo, methinks that like everyone else, NFLD isn't getting much snow this year either. It was all sent to Colorado.
Here in North Andover, we have the merest dusting. My 15 year old kept peering out the window this evening, getting all excited by the few snowflakes drifting down, visions of snow days dancing in his head. I'm afraid he's out of luck; Massachusetts may be a bit silly about their snow days, but half an inch isn't going to do it!
My crocuses are about 2" tall - they popped up very enthusiastically when we hit 69º F a few weeks ago, but must be wishing they hadn't now, because it's been hovering under 20 at night and around freezing during the day - with a predicted high of 13 on Friday. Brrrr....and to think I was out working in the garage just over two weeks ago seriously considering donning a pair of shorts!!
-
It snowed in the Arizona desert today - my pal sent me pics.

Here? The snow is almost all gone, the sun was out, the high temp was 57, and I'm back to wearing a light jacket outside. Perfect weather.
Paddy, everything in our yard is dead -- except the rhodies, and the largest one of those isn't looking too good. Come on out for a visit. You don't need to stay home and pack boxes. HAHAHA!
-
Hey Dick. Paddy is correct. We are well behind our seasonal amounts of snow. My son and I just shoveled our roof on Saturday, but there was only about 2 feet up there. According to my data, we've only seen 4 feet fall since the first snow, and a lot of that has settled and melted through the last couple of strange warm spells. We have about 2 feet depth on the ground presently. Not worth posting an image. But if we get what we had last year, I'll post. Just several days ago last year we got bonged with a gullywhomper which dropped 4 feet in 2 days. I think I blew the drive 5 or 6 times during that storm.

If the pictures are not too old, how would we know the difference?

Under high magnification, you can read the date of origin of the flakes. That is, assuming the image was taken at a high resolution to begin with. Newer flakes even have the Fractal formula on them!
-
We've got a good 4 feet on the ground now, but after seeing what upstate NY received, no sense on me posting my pics. Imagine. 12 feet in that short amount of time.

Newer flakes even have the Fractal formula on them!
But since Bill Gates bought the weather office to eliminate the competition, each flake uses the same fractal formula.
But it appears that to the majority of people, the MS flakes are good enough — and most people are content with MS's snow jobs.
You'll really notice the difference when each rain drop is square.

Here are some shots of our snow condition today. As I said earlier- we are quite a bit below normal snowfall.

*Gasp*
I'm not sure where you are at ... but I'm now cold. I need a cup of hot coffee.
-
Kimmer, it is now in my profile. Just amended.

Ok, but just a hint.... what Province is that?
"Down here" we identify our location by state. Of course, there may be towns of the same name in several states. - don't know if a similar thing happens in Canada.
-
csonni - WOW! You do live in snow country! Sneakers mom was born and raised in Moose Jaw, and her family all still live in and around that area (Saskatoon, Regina, Indian Head) -- and they all talk about their harsh winters, but not sure it compares to yours! I'll tell Dick that next time he complains to me about shoveling snow. I'm sure it will go over well.

Is this a serious question?
It's in the Province of Newfoundland. It's a famous area.

I don't think so, otherwise he would have used a map or even Google or some other search engine.

Then I should go back and erase my response?
-
Actually, it is the province of Newfoundland & Labrador. You see, we "mainlanders" think Labrador should be a separate province due to many factors. But for now, we settle with NL (abbreviation just like any State south of the border). For you r information, we had a good dump of snow last year in the middle of January which left us with 120 cm in just that 2 day storm. You can figure that out at roughly 30 cm to a foot. Strangely enough, I don't remember shoveling our roof after that one. I believe it was the direction of the wind that kept the loading down.
-
Why go to Google Maps when the answer shows up here? Don't you remember, I have a Mapquest problem. I don't know if Google Maps would show up either.
So "Labrador" is the "Province", eh? Just like Quebec is a "country".
It may be famous, but I've not been north or northeast of Boston, so I'm not aquainted with the geography up that far.
-
Quebec has never gained their sovereignty as a country. They are still a province within the borders of Canada.
-
Can't have Gregg going around map less .... try this

It appears that the nuance of my statement was not observed. Notice the quotation marks. I gathered from your earlier post that Labrador is not considered to be a true Province by some.

Thanks! You know how I love maps! It appears that Goose Bay is a town, not a bay; and not a town on a bay. Bet they would be able to lower taxes by changing the name to E Bay.

Here is a shot from yesterday (April 10) of our snow conditions. Don't think we'll see bare ground until late May.[attachment=234:attachment]

Oh man! I'm glad to be in Missouri! Milwaukee is getting socked with 6-10 inches of snow! The maps online show about 4-6 so far in our corner of the county. Hope it has all melted when we get home on Saturday! It could look like that photo there today...
-
Gregg..
We are/were supposed to get that same "6-10 inches"
But so far it's only amounted to about a slushy 1-2"...
SO FAR!!..
This time of year I'm of the "Mother Nature put it there... she can take it away" persuasion... We'll see how that sets with "management"
Hope your trip is going well...

I forgot to mention in my last post- I've logged in over 350 cm of snow since October- that's nearly 12 feet.
-
csoni:
As I sit looking out my hotel window over the "presently" snow-free Honolulu Bay (again!), I'm surely glad you got around to answering my query of, what was it, last January
And now, seriously . . . good luck with all that white stuff.
I'm going to check for a Goose Bay web page to see if here's some data on what the community looks like absent all that snow cover!
I have to admit that before I saw that sketch map, I (too) assumed that Gose Bay was on the Atlantic . . . err sumthin'
-
RHPConsult- if you scroll back some, you'll see I did answer your query earlier. This is just a follow up.

Whoops, right you are.
And, thanks. Very interesting pics . . . really.
