I couldn't believe it, but that Joy of Tech strip mentions it, and it's REAL. Maybe everyone is aware of it, but I just woke up after sleeping five years.

What is M$ thinking? Every time it crashes, every time it catches a virus, every time spyware phones the Russian mafia to add a $500 charge to the phone bill, who would the poor sap running it blame? It's the equivalent of inscribing your name on a pig with wings.

Ta-daaa! Presenting The Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Bill Gates Signature Edition! (Pause to take a breath.) $259! Who yelled supersize me?

Hmmm. Maybe it's a disclaimer.

I think I'll go back to bed.

Anyone catch Meredith Veaira's (sp) interview with Bill Gates on the Today show this morning?  She said that her 17 yr old son told her that Windows has too many holes that viruses can get through and propagate. Bill said we've fixed those... rofl.gif

Thanks, Roy. I found it here. Humm, seems like about 25% of the interview is an ad for Apple. I'm sure Gates was just thrilled about that. He's probably having second thoughts on that NBC/MS partnership. biggrin.gif

Strange site, that MSNBC.com. Went there from Robs link and watched part of a NetFliks ad, decided to pause it. Saw the Gates movie and clicked the "Play Now" link. Nothing happened. Tried again, same result. Clicked the image itself, still nothing. Changed the browser "ID" to IE 6/Windows. Now I could see a list of several movies I had queued up, multiple Gates and a couple of the jet-powered dragster. Deleted all but one of each in the list and clicked the play button. Sure enough the NetFliks add played and when it finished, the Gates movies showed it was loading. However, all that was displayed was a message that the movie was not available. Same thing for the dragster movie.

OK, they must have pulled the two movies. But then the strange part occurred! I get a window saying I must have Internet Exploder 6, version 10 of WMP, and the most current Flash junque. I'm sure glad I was able to view the NetFliks ad with my crippled software! smile.gif wallbash.gif

I should have just viewed the cartoon and skipped the MSNBC thing! tongue.gif

I'm going back to the standard typwriter and ribbon technology.  The computer industry is bleeding everyone dry (M$) not to metion names, but it's cheaper to buy a new computer with Vista on it.

Yet there's another problem with bying PC';s these days.  You don't get a reinstall CD if anything goes wrong with your OS, and you have to have a DVDRW to make your backup disk, but if the firmware isn't up to date, then you're screwed.

A friend of mine bout an HP and there was no recovery disc, then the computer needed firmware updates that created another problem with her DVD burner, so she ended up spending 39.00 for the recover disc, and another 15 for shipping; not to mention the hour or so she spent on hold with HP assistant line.

The phone call wasn't free either.  She got a bill for the call that was close to 50 bucks, and ended up taking the HP back to the retailer and told them that it didn't work properly.

After Comp USA tried to burn a recov er disc for her and the drive didn't work, they were kind enough to give her her mnies, but tried to get her to take another one.

The good thing about Apple is that you do get your recovery discs included with your purchase.  If Apple did away with that, then this would be my last Apple computer on my desk.

Thank goodness for a man (Steve Jobs)  thumbup.gif that has common sense and thinks about the consumers in what they want and what there needs are.

Clip worked fine with FF 2.0.

Boy, Gates is really good at twisting the details to suit his purposes.

OK, OK, he's really good at lying.    wink.gif

OK, it played fine as long as I didn't touch anything! Kinda like Windows? Thinking.gif

It was almost painful to watch Mr. Gates squirming in that seat, however. I wonder if he ran out of Preparation H? dntknw.gif Maybe he's just the 'shy' type... He did seem quite adept at avoiding direct answers, of course. tongue.gif Anyway, I've gotta leave right now and go buy a PC so I can run this tremendously powerful OS that Apple has been copying. Do you realize you can get a history of what sites your browser has been to?! Astounding! WOW.gif Next thing you know, they'll have that "plug-n-play" thing working!

Any bets on how long Ms. Vivera(sp?) will stay at MSNBC? I hope that wasn't her boss I heard laughing in the background when she mentioned she'd just signed a contract. oops.gif
