What do I do with them? I've already installed the security updates, but the packages are still sitting in my "Packages" folder. Do I just go ahead and back them up (just in case I need them again) and then trash them? Or do I leave them sitting there?

I put 'em on a disc and take them off the hard drive, but I don't know why. My hard drive is probably only about 10% full.

SOMEBODY. please correct me if I'm wrong... (little doubt there)... but I thought I had read some place that Apple checked for packages to know if you had or needed to update?!??!?

Software Update checks the Receipts folder when updating. You need to leave those in there.
If you have the .pkg files somewhere else from the download, I would save those.
I save everything I download and burn to DVD when the folder gets to about 4GB.

Thanks. Packages backed up and removed. Receipts untouched. More room on hard drive and I'm less confused.

Thank you, BobW, for the correcting post.... knew that there was something that Apple checked...
