Ohio State won!
Michigan State won!
Indiana won!
Duke lost!!!
Some very good first round games tonight. Xavier vs BYU was a very good one. So was VCU vs Duke.
GO BUCKEYES!!!
-
They switched back and forth so often, it was almost like I had two games in "Picture in Picture". They were obligated to show more of the Marquette game here, even though it was not close.
-
Yeah GREGG, that is the one drawback to watching the NCAA tournaments...they try to cover all the games. Oh well...after each round there are fewer to watch! Go BIG TEN!!!
-
Well one of the BIG TEN teams fell. Sorry about your ILLINI Gregg.
Wisconsin won!
Purdue won!
5 out of 6 Big Ten teams still in it.
And Gunug's Kansas Jayhawks stomped Niagara!
-
I managaed to pick 26 out of 32 on the first round. Yeah, Big Ten and Big Twelve did quite well so far. I didn't see it, but the scoreboard kept me felling like Illinois would win, but they forgot to play the last 2 minutes.
(EDIT: I miscounted - I picked 26 of 32), and 7 of 8 in the second round yesterday. So far except for Vanderbilt, my Sweet sixteen picks are right on).
-
Wisconsin played a terrible first half but came back from a 18 point deficit.
On Wisconsin
And my Alma matter, the Southern Illinois Saluiki's won.
Go Salukis!

We watched that one here. They let it get away from them; a real heartbreaker. Everything broke down at the end.

Whew! Well the Bucks didn't go to sleep (as their brothers did in AZ in January) but how to I get my heart out of my throat! Question: Do Lewis and/or Conley know how to "miss" the clutch shots?????a
It looks like there's good reason the Buxks are Nr. 1.
Just the same, congrats to Xavier. G-r-e-a-t Game!

Good game, Buckeyes.
Kathy

OUCH!!! I'm still picking myself up off the floor.

RHP said... but how do I get my heart out of my throat!
Me too..me too! What a game...XAVIER is one heck of a team. They figured out how to get to Oden and they definetly had us on the ropes.
and the rest of the story: We were missing easy layups the whole game, including ODEN. Then when it really really counts...Ron Lewis does his magic...drains a 3 to tie the game and leaves 2 secs. on the clock. Then in OT...Michael Conley decides he's going to take it all on his shoulders and lights em up with 3s and 2s and free throws to ice it with 16 pts. Oh MY Oh My Oh MY...I am flabbergasted and thrilled too.
GO BUCKEYES!!!
-
Indiana vs UCLA just finished...as did Michigan State vs North Carolina. Both lost. So now it's down to three Big Ten teams left.
Ohio State...won!
Purdue plays Florida tomorrow.
Wisconsin plays UNLV tomorrow.
Go Bucks!!!
Go BIG TEN
-
I got to watch a lot of that game with Xavier; wow it was a great game!
-
I was thinking about you, Roy. For a second or two, I thought the refs might confer and call a flagrant foul on Oden. Had they done so, the Buckeyes would be going home. What a game!
-
Now there is just one BIG TEN team left in it...our beloved Buckeyes. I am hoping that they will do us and the BIG TEN Conference proud.
A couple of interesting asides...
We played Tennessee in January and beat them 68-66. Ron Lewis had an end of game 3 that won it! Deja vu!
This most heart warming and proud moment...Ron Lewis graduated from The Ohio State University today. It says great things about the man and the program to see him get his degree.
-
To me the biggest surprise was Texas losing as badly as they did to USC. I knew USC was coming on, but ...
-
Mercifully, we were at the Symphony while Wisconsin was losing today. On the radio, the "experts" we heard are convinced the Final will be betweeen Florida and North Carolina. Personally, I think it's someone else's turn.
-
Yeah, I'm with you on that. I like to see a different team win it every year.
I did quite well in my picks last Wednesday.
1st round: 26-6
2nd round: 12-4

NCAA Renames March Madness ‘March Bipolar Disorder’
Under Pressure from National Institute of Mental Health
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) stunned the sports world today by announcing that its annual college basketball tournament, known to its fans as March Madness, will henceforth be known as March Bipolar Disorder.
The name-change, which both surprised and outraged devotees of the annual ritual, came after the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) demanded that the NCAA drop the “Madness” tag.
While fans across the country argued that “March Bipolar Disorder” did not have the same ring to it, a spokesperson for the NIMH said today that the new name was “more clinically accurate.”
“Each year, the tournament produces extreme mood swings in both its players and its fans,” said spokesperson Carol Foyler. “In our view, those symptoms are consistent with bipolar disorder.”
Even as tournament purists complained that the NCAA had caved in to the medical community, sports marketing expert Colby Teague said that the name-change could open the door to new sponsorship opportunities from the manufacturers of bipolar disorder medications, such as Eli Lilly.
“I could see a scenario where next year it’s called the Zyprexa™ March Bipolar Disorder,” he said.
Among bipolar college basketball fans like Devon Trailor of Chapel Hill, NC, reaction to the controversial name-change was mixed: “I was very excited about the new name yesterday, but today I’m not.”

Good one Beacher...

Scooped The Onion! I'm impressed!!
-
Well the Kansas Jayhawks advanced. Good game...close, but they hung on! Congrats gunug!
-
The longest 6 seconds in basketball!
I gotta double-up on my hypertension med!
Go Bucks!

-
The dream stays alive...oh my oh my. I thought we had lost it in the first half. What a game...oh man what a game. What a comeback from 20 points down.
On to the ELITE EIGHT and we play Memphis on Saturday.
GO BUCKEYES!!!
-
UCLA made it look easy, judging from the final score. I didn't stay up for the later games. The Buckeyes have struggled, but are still hanging in there. My wife thought the refs helped Kansas a bunch at the end. I was listening, but not watching.
Good luck fans! (except Kansas)

Question for ABD:
Will it be OK with you if Dolphin, Dick Miller, Jack, Kathy, other assorted "Indian Country" layabouts together with Yours Truly root rather vigorously this afternoon for the gallant lads from Columbus?
Go BUCKS!

I second this request...
GO BUCKEYES!!!

Congratulations Ohio St. Final Four.

YES Final Four baby....GO BUCKEYES!!!

What? You Ohioians ( I can see why you use "Buckeyes"! ) only had one team at the 'madness'! True, we only have one of our three left and maybe not even the local one, since I think they were playing you guys this afternoon. Oh well, the morning paper will surely blare the outcome. What a waste of ink.
Both the paper and the reporting of useless 'news'. Humbug!
"Root" for whomever/whatever you want, that's what all the pigs I know of do.
Always seemed rather uncivilized to me... Similar to the belief that some ancient warrior ancestor must have passed on enough genes to make some difference in ones capabilities.
Exactly what is the relationship between a schools team and its prior/current alumni?
Other than monetary, of course! We all know who has the highest salary at most higher education facilities (and it's not the most praiseworthy professor). I think I heard that your Columbus school had about a 1 in 10 graduation rate amongst its athletes. I think I could understand that at Vanderbilt. But it is closer to 1 in 4 at Tennessee and UoM. Oh well, I'm sure some of those dollars will trickle down to the English Department for more remedial classes!
-
Ooh, sour grapes.
-
OUCH the Kansas Jayhawks are out of it. UCLA beat them 68 to 55 I believe. Sorry gunug!!!
-
UCLA looks unstoppable. But, the Buckeyes looked much sharper too. I'd like to see those two in the final...!
-
OSU - down to the final four! Great score, too!
Go Bucks!

I think they just got worn out; UCLA was running circles around them! At least my nephew (in the KU Basketball Band) can come home and shave now. I did get to see him last night on the game.
Ohio State looks pretty tight still; they should beat UCLA!

We always got a kick out of seeing our son in the stands at Mizzou games; basketball and football. That's neat that you saw your nephew. We have a niece at Illinois who sits in the student "Orange Crush" section. We have yet to see her on TV. Her cousin, our nephew, is there too, but not in that group.
Like your newest new avatar. Are you rotating them?
Oh yeah, we were pulling for UCLA.
-
another #1 seed goes down. What a game! Georgetown is going to be very tough for the Buckeyes. However; I have faith in them.
GO BUCKEYES!!!

Georgetown will be a more interesting matchup for the Buckeyes than North Carolina would have been. Then I hope it's UCLA. I'm tired of Florida. But that Horford kid is a good player, and seems to be an outstanding young man as well.

I was exploring the idea of the Fool as shown in the Tarot deck and looked around for images of fools, clowns, and jesters. There is something in a book by Richard Grossinger that got me started on this.
That is, as I recall, from an old comic called the Jester or something like that (I've had the image for awhile); if there isn't enough detail to tell the big head is the moon and the Jester is draped across him! I tried putting up a different picture of myself that I really hated and called it my evil twin!
-
Sour grapes?! That would seem to imply that I gave a 'hoot/root'!
Perhaps you didn't notice that my post was before the losing game, not afterward.
No change as to my opinion of 'sports', especially the 'educational' leagues, as a result of these games. Frankly, these two posts contain the sum of all my comments about any sports related event in my 63+ years!
I just don't get the vicarious relationships, I guess.

The French are said to be master conversationalists, discussing ideas and concepts of high-minded levels. But, that's because they only have "soccer" to talk about! We have baseball, basketball, real football, hockey, boxing, golf, NASCAR, Indy, Kentucky Derby, etc.

Maybe that's my problem, Gregg, I wasn't aware that conversations were limited to 'sports'!

This was a "heck of a game" and we were victorious. I am a happy BUCKEYE right now.
GO BUCKEYES!!!

Buckeyes are in the Finals! Congrats!! Good to see new blood there.

Congrats, Roy. They never let Oden's foul trouble get them down. When he got to play, he was great! Sorry, I'm pulling for UCLA - or rather, against Florida.

Looking at individual colleges, there is, of course, a mix of good news and bad. Four colleges graduated 100 percent of their basketball periods during the period in question, using the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate: College of the Holy Cross, Davidson College, the University of Florida and Weber State University.
Florida is last year’s national champion and one of four No. 1 seeds in this year’s tournament, but many of the other teams that have topped the polls this year fare less well in the institute’s graduation-based ranking. Of the three No. 1 seeds, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a Graduation Success Rate of 70 percent, but the University of Kansas has a rate of 45 percent and Ohio State University lags with a GSR of 38 percent – and a federal graduation rate of just 10 percent.

Congratulations to the Florida Gators on their repeating as National Champions. It was one helluva game.
I am proud of The Ohio State Buckeyesfor a Fantastic season.
GO BUCKS!!!

Hey, SandBox:
The better team really did win tonight!
Congratulations to the Chompin' Crocodiles! (Hmmmm. Is that right!)?
What a pleasure to watch such skill, under so much pressure.
Hardly as relaxing as watching the present TeeEss Banner!
PS: Dolphin – should I take down my Buckeye flag, now?

Florida takes both football and basketball championships this year.
A sad day for the Buckeyes - congratulations to Florida for a job well done.
Buckeyes - you have nothing to be ashamed of - second place is good, and you accomplished two of those this season.
Kathy
-
Dick, leave that flag up until Oden and Connally(?) decide to come back for next season!
Florida's "hack a Shaq" trio was too much for the Buckeyes. So the book closes on a great season...
Now: BASEBALL!!!!
-
Dick...you know the answer to that question. It's a resounding NO!
We will be back!!!
-
Too bad for the Buckeyes. Florida had more future NBA Players IMO.
Any Champion has at least two. Three is better.
Not a pretty or fun Game to watch really. Lots of Defense and Fouls.

To cheer up the Buckeye fans....
