Does this mean that I'll have to unblock DoubleClick when I use Google?

To block DoubleClick:

Using Firefox: Adblock or Adblock Plus - along with the accompanying Adblock Filterset.G Updater - will very nicely block DoubleClick from tracking you.

Good question, I've rejected doubleclick since 2000.

Apart from following Epaminondas' good advice there is another tweak that can be used if you are using Firefox.  If you "need" to use Google's "services" install the CustomizeGoogle extension.  This allows you to Remove Click Tracking, Anonymize the Google Cookie UID and prevent cookies being sent to Google Analytics.

Gads. I'm about to reinstall FF (way too many crashes), and I guess I'll take time to really customize it.
