At least in browsers, there's plenty of choice for everyone.

I use Camino most of the time but every once in a while I use Firefox for something. Recently I noticed that my cursor moves appreciably slower and less distance while traversing a FF page than it does while in Camino. I've opened up windows from each browser and tested moving the mouse and it is a very obvious difference. Camino zips the arrow around but it slows by maybe 40-50% in FF.
Safari is somewhere in between.

Anyone else see this?

Post by: Paddy on May 08, 2007, 08:30:56 AM: Kris, I just tried Camino (downloaded the most recent version, since I was 2 versions behind), Firefox and Safari and saw no difference in cursor behavior.

I use Safari about 90% of the time, with most of the rest of the time spent in Firefox.I have just about every other browser on that list though, as I occasionally go through my web sites to make sure they all work in all the browsers, including IE via Parallels!!

I would say Firefox is favourite, Safari is next, and I am just beginning to use Opera, its nice. Mozilla is great too.

Post by: Xairbusdriver on May 08, 2007, 03:30:22 PM: Since nobody else has your 'sluggish' cursor problem, I'd say you've made known your preferences of Camino well known to FF. It is simply depressed and non-responsive. Try talking to it in a more positive and uplifting manner. Occasional praise couldn't hurt either. At least a kind word or two.

I can't see any difference when moving the mouse from the desktop on one side of FF, across FF and over the desktop on the other side. I don't think any app has input to the mouse, as far as speed goes, anyway.

My ideal browser would be a blend of FF and Safari.

Unfortunately, Camino cannot use FF extensions. It can use some internet plugins.

Jim, I did try cajoling it to be nice while in FF but it doesn't seem to pay attention.

It could be that I notice the difference because I have my settings for my mouse to very fast in the Microsoft Optical prefs. Maybe it wouldn't be apparent in a slower mode.

OK, I just did some experimenting.

I opened up a bunch of browsers and applications and measured how far the mouse had to be moved horizontally to cover the distance across my 19" monitor screen.

The following were the nearly identical (approx 1 3/4 inches of movement):

Camino
Sunrise
Opera
Omniweb
Appleworks
Mail
Preview
Finder

The following were measured at approx 3" of horiz movement to cover the same width:

Firefox
Safari

So I'm not imagining this. And not only is the movement hindered by these apps, the speed at which the cursor moves is very obviously slower.

Something is going on here.

Try trashing the MS Mouse Preferences and adding them again.

It is fast, stable and has most of the same extensions that FF. has. ( Adblock, NoScript etc.)

OTOH, the suggestion of adding/editing/checking what apps are not included in the mouse software is very likely the solution.

IE and FF in Virtual PC. MS XP
IE and iCab in OS 9
I do use Safari, Camio, Omniweb and Seamonkey for single sites, mailservers or to view a newly created web page.

I like Safari the least, it's often slow and sometimes unable to access the simplest secured servers like Squirrel Mail and Horde.

After kelly and Jim's remarks about the mouse prefs I decided to take a look though, I had no intention of resetting all those 5 buttons plus wheel. But when I checked the speed I had selected for FF and Safari I noticed for some reason it was slightly less than for global and other browsers. Pushed the slider over and all is equal now.
