Hi,
Is this normal that deleting files from an internal ata drive on my g4 pci graphic takes so much time...?
(os 9.2.2)
About one hour for 15 Mo in a folder... :-)
Thanks

I'm still using OS9.2.2 as well. I have never noticed a significant delay when deleting files. I assume you meant 15Mb in the folder. That shouldn't take more than a few seconds.
Thankfully, you didn't ask what might be causing this. I wouldn't have a clue.

Those G4's came with slow hard drives but not that slow! This is the kind of stuff you used to attack with Disk Warrior or Norton back in the day. You could be badly fragmented or have other problems!

Try running Disk Utility from the install CD. It can fix a lot of things - although if you have major directory damage, DW is your weapon.

I don't remember if there is a Disk Utility in OS 9. It may be called Disk First Aid.
Norton Utilities later versions worked pretty good in OS 9, but never in X.

You were right...
It takes the same amount of time for DW to rebuild the desktop...
I will check the drive more often... :-)
Thanks

....once a month in my case: Rebuild, Optimize, Backup - not necessarily in that order.
