Title: Abnormal Disk Utility?
Post by: Francine Eisner on June 28, 2007, 06:40:13 AM
Hi guys,

I installed Panther yesterday (and the update to 10.3.9) and I am having fun "nooding around" and seeing what's new. However, I've noticed what seems to be an abnormality in Disk Utility. I've been using it to repair permissions each time I do an installation, but I see that "Enable Journaling" is greyed out and is in fact nonfunctional. Yes  laugh.gif ....I know to select a disk first! But this does no good; "Enable Journaling" does not work.

BTW I am the Administrator, and haven't noticed any problems relating to not having permission to access any of the Panther features. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Francine

The reason that "Journaling" is greyed out may be that "Journaling is already enabled.

To see if it is enabled at the bottom of the Disk Utility window you should see some thing like this:

Mount Point :   /   Capacity :   11.8 GB (12,692,398,080 Bytes)
Format :   Mac OS Extended (Journaled)   Available :   5.9 GB (6,379,380,736 Bytes)
Owners Enabled :   Yes   Used :   5.9 GB (6,311,862,272 Bytes)
Number of Folders :   28,306   Number of Files :   137,029

You're right...it's already enabled. Thanks!
