Title: Creating multi-page PDFs using Image Capture tools

Hi, I really need to learn to create PDF's with multiple pages but I don't have Illustrator (only Photoshop).

I read the following post from MACOSX hints but I don't understand the first part "Go to System/Library/Image Capture"  My Library folder doesn't seem to contain an Image Capture folder.  When I do a search for "Image Capture" it pulls up an application and when I click on it, my scanner starts operating (not what I wanted).

Here are the instructions:

Go to System/Library/Image Capture. There we find two folders that contain some interesting stuff: "Automatic Tasks" and "Tools." In "Automatic Tasks," we have "Build Web Page" (BWP) and "Build Slide Show" (BSS), both of which have been covered here before (1, 2).

In "Tools," however, we find "makePDF." Dropping a bunch of pictures on the makePDF icon creates a multi-page PDF file containing your pictures.

Welcome Turtlehills!  You don't mention what version of the OS that you have; I have 10.4.10 now and I do have those folders.  I don't know if the instructions you're following are specific about that!

If you can't get the other method to work, consider making individual PDFs & then merge them together. You can combine individual PDFs into one PDF using one of these freeware utilities.

I use Acrobat while creating them or Presto Page Manager if they are separate,  http://www.newsoftinc.com/products/product...oductid=NAI0020
If you have a Brother MFC a Lite version was most likely in the software package.

I tried it under 10.4.10 on my office G4 and got it to work yesterday at work but the PDF turned out to be too big to post via the built in mechanism at TS so I "force quit" Firefox and went home (it was time to go home).  I put the IMAGE CAPTURE tool in the dock for later use!

I didn't have those two folders, either. But I found them on an older X version on my wife's iBook.

However, while I use Image Capture for downloading everything off our camera's, I'm not sure that's the only kind of multi-page PDF you're wanting to create. It appears that IC is intended to concentrate on "Images"! If multi-page PDFs of images is what you want, you'll either need to find those two folders or do it when you next off-load images from your camera ( instructions for that are in the IC Help ). If you have Pacifist, you can probably find those two folders on your Install DVD. Or, you can ask someone to send them via email, they total less than 715MB.

As for other types of documents converted to PDF, the normal Print dialog offers a "PDF" button. How it handles multi-page documents is a task left to the reader to determine.

The "Save as PDF" in the Print window to which ABD refers, is pretty powerful.  For instance if you have a long webpage that you want to save as a 'screenshot' but can't fit it, click on the Print command and then "Save as PDF". That will give you a picture of the page as a multiple pdf.
