There will be more than a hundred P-51 Mustangs at an air show in Columbus OH, September 27-30.

Edit to Add: The Thunderbirds will be there too!

Roy, go to Frontier Days in Cheyenne. We saw the Thunderbirds there several years ago. It's a great excuse to get out to the Rocky Mountains!

I'm going to be working as a volunteer at that Air Show for three days. Here is their web site. www.gml2007.com.

Please indulge me in "plugging" IMO one of the BEST teams when it comes to Airshows:

Canada's Snowbirds

Of course I may be a bit biased...  rolleyes.gif

Is Anne Murray's song about the pilots, or feathered friends?

Now that's a pair of winners! Anne Murray and an airshow! The Snowbirds and Ms. Murray, the two best Canadian exports! smile.gif

Oh, come on! You can't ignore the RAF's Red Arrows.

I guess national pride means we all reckon 'our' nation's team is 'the best'. I'm sure Jim would agree that skill standards must be pretty well identical in all these formation teams, or they wouldn't last very long...

For videos just do a search for "Red Arrows" in Youtube

Thanks for the "introduction to the team" Neil... smile.gif

Interesting reading about what sort of aircraft they all use too.

I guess the song is about a feathered friend:

Snowbird

Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean
The unborn grass lies waiting
for its coat to turn to green
The snowbird sings a song he always sings
And speaks to me of flowers
that will bloom again in spring
When I was young my heart was young then too
Anything that it would tell me,
that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life
Is the thing I can't win
Spread your tiny wings and fly away
And take the snow back with you
Where it came from on that day
The one I love forever is untrue
And if I could you know
that I would fly away with you
The breeze along the river seems to say
That he'll only break my heart again
should I decide to stay
So little snowbird take me with you when you go
To that land of gentle breezes
where the peaceful waters flow

Spread your tiny wings and fly away
And take the snow back with you
Where it came from on that day
The one I love forever is untrue
And if I could you know
that I would fly away with you
yah if I could, you know that I would fly away with you

Neil...I did get to see the Red Arrows while stationed in Germany during my time in the USAF. They are very good. I also saw the Italian team and they too are good. I cannot think of the Italian teams name though! Thinking.gif

This one - Frecce Tricolori?

Dolphin: Were you ever stationed at Upper Heyford in the UK? I lived about four miles from there for some years in the 80s, and we regularly had F1-11s and Starlifters(?) flying over our house. We were on the take-off path but they were no trouble except when they had exercises and took off with afterburners going....  blueeek.gif

Neil, NO...I was never stationed in the UK. However; I did do a temporary (1 week) duty stint in Alconbury as an inspector on the United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) inspection team. I believe we landed at  Mildenhall AB when we arrived in the UK. Thinking.gif

I did get into London by train and saw many many sights! Loved the Tower of London and the Crown Jewels!!! thumbup.gif

I know I've mentioned this before.... but my neighbour found himself flying a Mustang over Normandy on D-Day. He said it was a dream to fly - it had the same Merlin engine used in the Spitfire. Saw a TV programme a while back in which an American pilot said the Merlin-engined Mustang was a fine example of a combined effort.
