Title: My father...
Post by: Francine Eisner on September 19, 2007, 02:34:55 PM
Dear Fellow TS Members:

Yesterday afternoon , my father, Nathan Eisner passed away. He was a WWII Air Force Veteran, and extremely proud that he worked on the missile guidance systems of the B-29 aircraft. My father was an exemplary husband, father, friend, and citizen. He was 84 years old, and would have been 85 on January 12 of 2008. He and my mother were happily married for nearly 60 years.

There just wasn't anyone like him. We were extremely close, and I cannot contain or even properly express the extent of my grief.

I know that many of you have experienced the loss of a beloved parent or spouse, and that I am not the only person going through this. I just wanted to let you all know what is going on in my life. and the reason why I will probably be mostly absent from TS in the near future.

Best regards,
Francine Eisner

My condolences. And prayers for you, your family and his friends. Times like these are when family and friends are really important. You know you've got plenty of friends here, hope you have plenty of real ones around you, also. Return as soon as you can!

I can tell from your attitudes around here that your Father was a fine one! ;-)

Mine as well!  Back a few years ago I found myself in the same position and what helped me was to help others in the family to get over my Dad's loss and to try, in some small way, to take up his role in helping people in the family to hold together.  I also later made up a small website to him as a remembrance.

Your cherished memories will help you through the difficult days ahead. Try not to mourn his death, but celebrate his life.

Heartfelt condolences.

My heart goes out to you and your family, Francine.

I lost my pop on Jan. 23, 1999, and my mom on Mar. 18, 2000.

I will always have empty places in my heart, but I hold tight to the precious memories I have of them both.

This poem was sent to me when my dad died, and the words touched my heart. Perhaps they will help to ease your sorrow as well.

~The Master Weaver~

The pattern of our lives is formed with tender loving care,
And He who does the weaving works in colours dark and fair.
We see odd strands of colour as the tapestry unfolds,
Not understanding there must be greys among the golds.
But in the Master Weaver's eye the whole design is clear,
For He alone knows why and where the dark threads must appear.
And if we trust His guiding hand, then one day we shall see
The final picture woven in a perfect tapestry.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi Francine,

I don't know what I can add here but to say that, all my best, to you and your family and my heartfelt condolences.

The poem Kimmer quoted is quite poignant, and also somehow very soothing. I lost my father in 1997, and he is always with me.

I can assure you, it will get better, please remember to take good care of yourself.

All the best,

Chris K

I am so sorry for your loss, Francine.

May your father rest knowing he was loved and appreciated by his country, his friends and his family.

That's a successful life.

My condolences too... My own parents died some 15 years ago and I still think of them and am grateful for having had a good and happy upbringing.

So sorry to get your news, Francine. I could echo many of the above comments that have been shared.

You'll go forward, even if that seems impossible right now. It's difficult, but just take it one day at a time.

Don't be alarmed if the sorrow lingers for a very long time. That's normal.

My sympathies on the loss of your Dad, Francine.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

All our sympathies Francine.

Elaine (my wife) lost both her parents within the space of 9 months in the last two years so we kind of know how you feel.

My wife's mother is even now close to death.  She went in for a stint in her leg (at 83) yesterday and didn't react well to the anaesthesia and is now on a respirator and such.  Her husband BTW was a B-17 navigator in the European theatre.  I hope she and everyone else in her situation has a pleasant journey onward.

Francine-My deepest condolences.  May the memories of the good years past outweigh the sadness of the present time.  A song in your heart, a smile on your lips, a sparkle in your eye, those are his enduring gifts to you.  May you continue to unwrap each for years to come, while remembering his generosity each time.

Francine, I am sorry for your loss.

I have lost two husbands, both my parents and many aunts and uncles, as well as friends.  Each time, I needed to grieve - this is part of the healing process.  I pray that you will take this time to grieve and remember all of the wonderful memories  you had with your dad.  Eventually you will come to a place of peace.

May God bless you during this sad time of your life.

My sympathies too, as my father was one amazing person, and when he passed away it was not easy for me.
The memories are what keep us going, and dont let them fade.  Then they will be reborn with your grandsons, at least thats the way its going for me.
Weve just come home from his father's vacation cottage, and pictures of him and family are everywhere.
Memories of a wonderful life will never leave our minds!

Dear Francine,

I'm sorry to be a little late here, but I want to add my condolences. My father, too, was 84 years young when he died. We were extremely close, although geography separated us in later years.  You may know about the kaddish, the Hebrew prayer for those who have lost a loved one. It is a beautiful prayer, which begins with "Magnified and glorified is His great name" -- an ancient Aramaic poem. The last line, however, is Hebrew and comes from the Book of Job - "May He who makes peace in high places make peace for us all..." It is good to remind ourselves at this difficult time that there is no mention of "death" at all in the prayer. It is a prayer of life, love, and faith in the future. May He shower many blessings on you and your family in the future.
