Now that I have a 24" monitor, I find I am using my G5 much more. Much more. Much more screen real estate. The kids love it, too. With some games, such as Nanosaur 2, I notice that there is a bit of stuttering in the graphics. I have the original graphics card installed (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 64 meg). Is there any advantage of stepping up to a better card for games such as Nanosaur? What other advantages are there? Any card recommended? I have an NEC Multisync 2470WNX monitor. Thanks.

I have a friend who is in an architecture firm in KC and has had the G5 Powermac with an NVidia Quadro FX 4500 but the prices on that were beyond the reach of mere mortals (he thought it was around $2,000 two years ago). I'm guessing that you've got an AGP model G5 based on the video card you have; but you'd best check to be sure. I'm seeing some different model NVidias at WeLoveMacs:

Almost any of those would be a step up from what you have. I would tend to stay with NVideo but someone here might have a different idea.

I'd rather stay away from fan-cooled cards unless they're known to be dead silent. I don't need any more noise apart from my G5 as is. My G5 single 1.8 is the first one "off the press" so to speak. An AGP slot, a PCI and a PCI-X.

Any comments on the Radeon 9200 Mac Edition?

Csonni, I don't know about the comments from users...doesn't sound too positive!!
How about the Radeon 9600 Pro? CDW Canada has that (or will have, in 3-6 days):

Or a 9800XT off eBay. Probably some reasonable deals to be had there, judging from the listings. Many sellers will ship to Canada. Other than that, the x800 is about it, and it's a lot more money.

I have the 1st generation G5 and I can tell you that video card options for it suck.
I upgraded mine to the ATI 9600XT, which is 128MB of video memory. Look for it on ebay or buy new. Good card.
