Title: Classic comedy sketches on telly:
Post by: Highmac on December 13, 2007, 05:16:00 AM
This was going to be a post on the Darwin thread, but it grew a life of its own.....
Krissel's link to Wikipedia's unusual deaths page ("This is an incomplete list, which may never be able to satisfy certain standards for completeness") led me to notice that the name of one of Britain's best-loved comedians was not there. He had suffered heart problems and famously died after a one-night show at a small theatre. He did some curtain calls...

He walked into the wings and joked "Thank goodness that's over", before collapsing with a third and final heart attack.
I don't think they were well known outside the UK, but they were definitely the tops here. One Christmas special, during their heyday in the 70s, drew something like 18 million viewers in a nation of 55 million. Pretty good going....
That led me in turn to YouTube for what has to be their most famous sketch - with guest, conductor Andrew Preview (sic). It's 36 years since that was first shown, but I still weep with laughter. Previn was just one of the many stars who just loved being made fun of on the Morecambe & Wise Show.
So, getting into the mood for some holiday fun, find your favourite TV comedy sketch of all time on YouTube or similar and give us a link. Be interesting to see how our sense of humo(u)r varies
